Philippines Trek

I was most surprised that Reuben has hair.:) Looks like a wonderful trip and beautiful place, guides and all:)

Wow! Those are some stunning pics you took! What a beautiful country.

Dude, that one guy holding and posing with the knife and a huge smile on his face looks like he's fresh out of a gay bar somewhere? I'm beginning to question what you were really doing over there, Reuben. :D

Beautiful pics! What is up with the huge snake - was it "tame" or ? HUGE snake!

I've always wanted to explore Vietnam or Philippines is it ok if I shipped a knife over there, and used it in the country side while running around taking pictures like you did? Cause I saw in your pic a local with a knife, so I'm assuming people won't freak out if a RC3 and or 6 are at my waist?

I was born there but still has to explore a lot of places - haven't been back in 8 years and I think its time for a trip back. Philippines does have some interesting knives and yes most of them are made out of surplus leaf springs.

All made right there in front of you to see. Some forges start work at 4:30am and finish at 3pm.

I am going to suggest you take it in your check-in. As far as walking around brandishing it. Remember that even with law officials jealousy is a very good reason to take it away and enforce their laws of no knives allowed. While in Banaue to shoot the rice terraces I had a conversation with an on officer of the law. He was at the local bolo makers shop and I asked him about their carry laws. He told me here in the mountains and in the province it is fine to walk around with a bolo or small knife. I asked him about their carry laws, which I looked up, and he said it is alright. I pulled out my Swiss Army Knife and told him you won’t catch me anywhere in the world without this and he said “we understand it is a necessary tool for you, plus you have a friendly face. But, in Manila don’t carry it exposed.”
I tried going to a post office in Manila with 3 nicely wrapped bolos to send back to the states for glamour shots and they would not let me send them. They said it is illegal to export weapons from their country. I opted to bring them back in my check in and besides a quick question by the Filipino customs which sounded like this, “Are those for check in?” I didn’t have any problems all the way to and through the US customs!

damn i totally miss that thread! Thanks for the heads up in the ESEE forum :D

My pleasure, I like sharing here with my RAT bros, you guys here are the coolest most welcoming place on Bladeforums. No pissing matches just good conversation!

Thanks for the heads up BTD, Philippines has always been a place I've wanted to visit! Bolo? Those are those huge knives right? How much do those cost? Have any pictures of the ones you brought back? The check in, as in those big boxes I see some philipinos have at the airport? You can bring those kind of things in? Wow! Now I have to keep that in mind! I wonder if I could have a drawing of a one piece blade made there and bring it back :)

The Philippines is a safe, happy place and wish you could all go one day. If anyone wants to go, let me know. I have a few contacts and some good people who will help you get around.
I will post a few photos of some of the blades I used and saw around there but there will be an upcoming article in Tactical Knives on more blades from a Forge in Bohol. I won’t post those pics for obvious reasons.

I think someone will make you what you want but it may take a little time.
