You guys probably remember the chute that Phillip Patton made for me awhile back. Well, the ancient whale bone shrank so badly that both scales cracked. Off the knife went to Phillip for him to put some African blackwood scales on. He also reshaped the handle to give it more of a Loveless look. I think he did a great job.

Looks nice, Keith. I remember that WIP thread and just went back to view it. Very informative at the time, and enjoyed going through it again. And, now, we learn more. Things can go wrong, and you and Phillip have revived a super knife with style. The blackwood looks great.

There's a risk of shrinkage with almost any natural material, but the African blackwood should hold up real well. And I think it looks great.

Very nice work!

I also like how when Phillip does something reminiscent of another craftsperson, it doesn't look like he's copying that person, just paying an homage in a distinctly Patton kind of way.

That's a really clean, good looking piece of blackwood - on a really clean, good looking knife.
