Phosphor Bronze

I was shopping for phosphor bronze in sheet form and discovered that there are different grades available. So I wish to pick the best grade for my application. The problem is I can not find information on the web that give figures on different grades to compare. What I am mainly concerned with is the coefficient of friction as well as wear characteristics (not sure how you quantify that.) I could just buy a sheet of each grade and test them to find the best fit, but I am trying to invent the next big thing on a budget.

Thank you for any info.

Are you talking about 'grade' [chemical composition] or 'condition' [annealed, half hard , full hard ] ? Application ?

Chemical composition.

There are different chemical compositions of phosphor bronze. My guess is they are all formulated to have slightly different properties not unlike grades of steel but I have no info on what those properties are.

I know that phosphor bronze can be work hardened, but can it be heat treated too?

Application, I am planning on using it like a washer. I know that is not ground breaking but this is going to be different and I have to buy it in sheet form so I need to know what to buy.

It isn't heat treatable .There are leaded phosphor bronzes too ,which are used for bushings. The best source of info for copper alloys is www.copper.org

mcmaster is always excellent with this kind of info.
Punch "bronze" into search bar. For everything they
carry, there will be a reference to ASTM standard that
you then can google separately
