All the references seem to be buried in other threads,
so I thought a titled thread to pull them together.

Please add to the topic.

PaintshopPro should work fine.
I've used it. My two programs (ThumbsPlus & Picture Window)
fit me better.
I've used PhotoShop a bit, & PhotoPaint for several years,
& find they often are less 'direct'.
But they have many advantages.

ThumbsPlus is my favorite all-'round image-handling program.
For these composites I used Copy, Paste, with rotate,
noise despeckle, sharpen, adjust for color/gamma/light/dark,
& maybe some other.
The result could have been much better with more time or
by using an image 'stitch' program that allows more precision
in the compositing.

From one of my previous posts:
"Great program for handling photos is:

ThumbsPlus

Online web demo of program from the main page--click flashing button.
Download, Free trial for 30 days.
Many Many Many features.
Scan, crop, sharpen, despeckle, filter, process, color correct,
batch, slideshow, tons & tons more.
I've used it for many years.
Not a photo Editor exactly.
But it does 95% of what anyone usually needs to do with a photo.

Another program I've used for not quite so long;
for pixel / brush / pen / cloning editing I recommend Picture Window.
Conceptually designed by a photographer as a digital darkroom.
Very different from corel Photopaint or Photoshop or any of the other photo editors I've seen.

RE Picture Window,
It feels much more like you're working in a darkroom--
tools, flow, etc.
As an old B/W film/print guy who spent long, long, long
(did I say long) hours breathing chemicals under
a dim amber light while breathing various chemical fumes
& listening to classical music.......
pause while I reminisce.............................
Ok........where were I ..................
Oh, yeah, PictureWindow, Like it.
Anyone who Like PhotoShop will not.

Worth checking out some good programs I'd forgotten about
'till I just searched for my prior post.
Another person's comments from another thread
(for totally free programs):
"If all you want to do is resize pictures and do basic color adjustment there is NOTHING better than Irfanview. It's fast, small, and best of all, FREE.

If you want to edit pictures as well you could check out the GIMP. It's another free program, similar to Photoshop. I used it for a long while before getting Photoshop and while it doesn't have all of PS's features, it's more than enough for most tasks.

Thanks Dean. I had Irfanview on my old computer and liked it, the newer version looks even better.:D
