So I'll be going to the BLADE Show and will be photographing like a wild man. I'm hoping to get photos of most of the custom knifemakers as well as their knives. It'll be a good excuse to get to know all the makers a little better and I'll have a ton of fun getting the photos. If there's anything specific you guys would like to see photographed I'll see if I can get it done for you. Any suggestions?

Personally, I'm interested in candid "street" style photography. I hang a rangefinder around my neck pre focused an snap away dicretely of interactions between people.

Close quarters people shooting benefits greatly from high or low angles and different perspectives. We all know what everything looks like at eye level, those are just snap shots.

The knives are cool, the makers are cool, but its the interaction I will be missing out on by not being there, so that's why it gets my vote.

I always appreciate clear photos of the knives, with captions/descriptions in the post of who the maker is.

Caleb:

I'd love to see pictures of all the knives on the ABS competition tables - "Best Fighter," "Best Sword," "Best of the Rest," etc. We are always so busy with customers that it's difficult to go take a good look, so it would be nice to see some good shots. We always see pictures of the winners, but never get a good feel for the competition.

Caleb, good for you, buddy.
As you post your photos upon your return, everyone will appreciate a bit of commentary on the photos.
So, whatever/whomever you decide to shoot - take good notes!!
Get yourself a note pad or some 'thing' that will take your dictation. :D

Don't forget to wander the show floor and take pictures of all types of knives, especially ones that catch your eye and maybe some that fold.;)

Photos of this crew, and knives:

Thanks!

Just have fun! With all the specific requests you may be scrambling to find makers you haven't heard of. Use this show to familiar your self with the knife scene and see what's out there.. just my opinion

Thanks guys, really helpful stuff! I appreciate all your suggestions and will see what I can do. :)

How 'bout some dramatic, sweaty shots in the judgeing room?

It is nice at times to see a size dimension. You might get a few of the big pieces in the makers hands. That would be cool.

You will have an awesome time. Enjoyed your Little Rock shots.
