Here's a picture I just took of what will be a radial pattern billet. These 4 pieces will be forge welded together, drawn out and squared, the made into the "W" pattern, and forged flat into blade stock (at least that's the plan).
The steel is 1095 and15n20. I first forge welded the initial billet, and drew it out. Then I split this billet right down the middle with some "V" dies on my press. I cut those 2 large pieces into 4 pieces, and that's what you're seeing here. I'll post some more later as I get closer to a blade. The yellow liquid you see on the pattern is ferric chloride. BTW these pieces are about 3" long each.

you know,,,thats such a good photo,,,that it leads me to think of what more I would like to see in photos....

Have you ever thought about just taking a ton of photos,,,of the whole deal?..start to finish,,,from opening the door to your shop, to the final pass on the buffer?

I would be very interested in seeing a blade made in a step by step photo,,,er,,,thingy.

One time I had a friend out in my shop and he asked to see a little of every step that went into the knives I made,,,I just walked him to the different tools and showed how they worked and told him what i did at each step to make a knife,,,,about 1/2 way into this listing, even I had to say, "I had no idea it was this much work!"

Robert, that's really cool! I hope you put some update pictures here for us when you move along with the forging. Yep, very nice pic, too.

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with it so far. I'm working on it, plus a "W" pattern this week. If it's worthy of a shot, I'll post it.
