Photography advice?

Any photography advice or tips to do better? I didn’t want to put in Shop Talk proper, but since many makers photograph their own work I thought I’d ask for recommendations here. I’m moderately happy with this, considering I’m not a photographer and using an old simple point and shoot type digital camera. I used the macro setting, and did what I could to diffuse the light.

I made this one, and it's still working for me. I'm upgrading it to two side lamps, instead of one top lamp, but that'll be later. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636336
