I know we have some good photo guys here so I thought some might have some advise. I am 32 & looking at going back to college for photojournalism. My last career has kind of burned me out & right now my wife can support us. If any of you are in the field & have any advise please feel free to post it or drop me a message. Also wanting to get a camera just for myself (so I don't keep fighting with the wife for it) & wondering what you guys would recommend. Thanks for the help.

You might want to talk to Evolute (Mike Spinak), he posts over in WS&S a lot. He has a great job.. nature photographer, just one notch below Beer Taster and Porn Star, in my estimation...

Thanks. Is there any easy way to hunt this guy down?

First place I would suggest you check is photo.net, and read their articles on photojournalism.... well written. Read the interview with Jodi Cobb (from National Geographic), and of course there is always Photojournalist.org for forums and discussion with Pros.

Camerawise, well... I use my old Nikon D1H for street shooting, OR any one of my Rangefinder's/35mm cameras, just depends on what I have on hand. For most of my studio/candid shooting, I use either a Canon D30 or my Canon 10D. Keep in mind, while the camera is important, the Lens is going to make the critical difference, don't skimp on it. I like the 18-70 and a 50mm for street shootin, but my favorite lens has always been the 35-105 or a 28-105, and the 50mm.

Jeff actually does this for a living, so he might have better info for ya, but I hope this helps get ya moving in the right direction.

EDIT: Nancy Ford wrote a pretty good article here and Mark Hancock has a great writeup here

Not sure how this can even be squeezed into being on-topic, and I figured the mods would have already closed it. If it were photos from a trip someone took then that would be more inline with being part of this forum. It is a great topic but not much survival related as it would be if you were doing photojournalism, traveling to remote locales and posting your pics up here. Going to close this thread. Again, I want to ask people to keep threads on topic here, otherwise I have to look like the asshole that I really am and close these threads, piss you off, and you go away with hurt feelings.
