Photon 3 problems....

I bought a white Photon 3 flashlight around September and it’s starting to cause me problems. I noticed that it was not working one day so I put fresh batteries in and it worked fine. The next night walking out to my car I tried to light up my door lock and nothing happened. Hmmm. I bought a different brand of battery from a different store and the same thing happened, it worked when I put the batteries in, and by the next day they where dead with no usage. I hope this isn’t normal. Please help. Thanx.

If you do a search here on "Photon" you find info on the III. I'm well documented on my love of the II and my hatred of the III.

I bought two III's and one was a dud right from the shop. On/Off and that's it. After playing around with it, I realized that's all I really need anyway. But this was a red one I bought SPECIFICALLY so I could use the lower output @ night to read charts on the boat without screwing up my night vision and conserving battery power. With a 50/50 success rate I'd say the photon III still "needs work" :(

They actually come from the factory "on/off" only.

To get the special features you have to open the back and take out a plastic film piece as I recall.

(If you already did that and thier "on/off" only still I appologize)

I think that there is a problem with some of the earlier Photon 3s and also there are failures from time to time, but I still believe that the P3 is a really great little light.I have used and carried(it is around my neck on a ball chain 24/7) one particular P3 for about 8 months now and I shower and swim with it on and have never had a hint of a problem.I have ,however, had alot of problems with Photon 2s,and have given them away and replaced them with 3s.Either way,the company has a great warranty service, and will even give you extra batteries to compensate for the ones that were drained prematurely.

I am just about fed up with my Photon III. I bought mine last September and soon after I got it I tried to use it and found it was dead. Threw it in a drawer for a couple months and finally decided to go get new batteries for it. Changed the batteries, found it dead again. I carry both a blue P3 and a white P2 on my keys and my P2 has never failed me whereas my P3 has been dead EVERY TIME I've needed it.

they go out like regular light bulbs... sometimes it's after 1,000,000 hours, sometimes it's like 2 hours... problem is, there's not filament to check... If you change the battery and it still don't light up, the LED is kaput.

Have to admit this is very frustrating. Bought 2 photon IIIs a month ago. One is fine. The other went dead after a week or so with little use. Sent it back (my vendor has good customer service) for replacement. Let them diagnose the problem. Still, speaks poorly for the mfg.'s QC...

This is the reason i recently totaly gave up on the photon and bought a ARC AAA LED light to replace it, the ARC hasnt had ANY PROBLEMs which is more than i can say about any photon(I,II,or III) i have used, now im telling all my friends to buy a ARC not a photon, the photons suck IMO, they get dim after about 10 min of use and stay that way for the rest of there 20 hour life cycle, this is unacceptable as the ARC stays the same brightness for its 20 hour life cycle, why cant photon do something about it? Just give up and go buy a real light and then you wont have any problems.

....I love my red Photon II. I've heard that those Photon III's have a few defects, some not all, so I'll just stick with what works. I've had mine since February and still have not had to replace the battery!!:D

The runtime on the Arc AAA is about 5 hours on bright mode. Then the regulator steps down into moon mode for another 6 or so hours of dim light.Still a respectable performance on a aaa battery.I really love my arcs, but sometimes, for intermittent use the twist on is not very practical.I always have a Photon or clone on my keychain so i have a squeeze switch light for when my hands are full and I need light.
But, I still recommend the Arc-aaa to everyone.I think it is the best small light out there.
