Photon III or arclight? Which do you prefer? Why? I have narrowed my choices to these two.

Get the arc light if you will be using the light a lot, but get the photon III if you will only be using the light occasionally. the arc light is much brighter, but the photon will last longer.

It depends on how you be using it. If you don't use it much and like a smaller size I would suggest a the Photon. If you use it a often and want more reliability I would suggest the Arc. I use the Arc more often now, since I use the light regularly. You can check this link for runtimes on the Photon vs Arc.

Dennis,
I have white and turquoise AAA ARCs. As previously mentioned, the ARC is brighter. Battery replacement will be easier in the ARC. The batteries will also be cheaper and easier to find (for the ARC). The Photon may be slightly smaller but the ARC is still very tiny and lightweight.

Let me know if you need any more ARC details.

I agree with SAK. THe Arc is still the light to beat IMO. It's bright, it has cheap and easily replacable batteries, and it's tougher than heck. plus IMO it looks a whole lot cooler than the photon

I've got both on the same ring. The Arc is great for extended use since it's bright and the batteries are easy to obtain. You can also use it to drain out all the AAA's laying around. The LE version with the T3 HA is very scratch-resistant.

I actually use the Photon 3 more often because I don't always need a bright light, and it has the momemtary switch. Also, since I haven't greased up the Arc's o-ring, the photon is easier to use one-handed. I have the covert version that has a shroud around the circumference of the LED. I found that the photon 3's switch requires more care in use than the photon 2 since the front of the switch (button) is the momemtary bright, while the back of the switch is the contant mode (in my case, medium intensity or low intensity). A good percentage of the time, I've hit the momemtary switch when I've meant to activate the constant switch. I also don't find the 3 flashing modes to be much use other than the gadget factor. A red photon 3 might be more handy for the flashing.

I would recommend both, but get the Arc first. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered both. :D

An Arclight LE and a green covert prhoton III.

Got the covert yesterday. It is defective. It will not cycle through all of the modes. Looks like it will be going back. :(
