Just about to get a Photon light for my keychain. Whats the best colour to get for everyday (or night) use?

Thanks

The Turquoise has good spread and high output. If you want a "path" light, that's the color.

For a more subdued amount of light, get the green.

I've got both colors and find them to be invaluable for a small lightweight handly light source.

Of course, the ARC AAA and other lights negate the need to have the photon's on my keychain.

I currently use a white Photon 2 - works great for occasional lighting (dropped keys in the parking lot/floorboards of the car, etc... I've had it on the current keychain for 2 years, and haven't needed to change the batteries yet.

I also have an Arc AAA - great light, but too bulky for my needs. I found that it got in the way more often than not. It sits in a drawer now. The photon or similarly sized lights work perfectly for keychain carry.

I always have my Photon II with me...It has the blue bulb, and works just fine, and it's not as "blinding" as the white light.

Brightness = Turquoise

Colour rendition = white

Battery life = yellow

In my opinion the Photon II is better than III

(Although I prefer Arc AAA white overall :) )

I've pretty much used them all and keep going back to white, and occasionally red. I found that I need relatively accurate color rendition more often than any ninja-like need for a specialized color. There have been occasions when the lack of a white light caused more trouble than anything else; specifically in map-reading (is it a road or a river?) and treating wounds (under a red light it is pretty hard to tell where the blood is).

I have'nt decided if this is going to work out or not, but I am trying Velcroing a Photon to my watchband so that it is always close at hand and can be used hands-free, if you will pardon the semi-puns. I will probably wind up losing enough lights to make it unfeasible, but we'll see.

Incidently I concur with Tardis re the P2. The 3 does a lot of neat stuff, none of which really actually need to be done, except a friend of mine and I set a red one and a blue one to strobe and figured it could be a lightbar for a mouse police car.;)

Initially, there were some big QC issues with the photon III, like 50% didn't work right (strobe and variable intensity issues mostly). That's been fixed for over a year. The III has more versatility than the II and it actually saved my bacon once. We had smoke in the summer place one night and the Fire Dept. told us to evacuate. Unfortunately, the Fire Policeman drove right by us! I turned the strobe on the III, and he caught in his rearview mirror and turned around. Luckily, nothing got out of control and a smoldering outlet was located by the Fire Dept. So, don't discount the extra features! The turquoise is the brightest, and does preserve some of your night vision (green is actually a little better than red for night vision preservation, according to my brother-in-law pilot). My vote goes to the Photon III in turquoise. But the ARC is a kick-ass little light.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I went ahead and got the turquoise Photon II. I'm pretty amazed at how bright it is for its size. Of course, it would seem that the ARC AAA must be great, cause everyone seems to love it. But I wanted something really small just for finding keys. The fact that the Photon II is as bright as it is, is a bonus.
