I'm looking for feedback on these tiny yet apparently super powerful flashlights. If anyone has used or heard of them and has an opion about them; good, bad, or indifferent. I would like to hear from you.

Thanks for your Replies

I buy them regulary for gifts. They are very bright as long as you pick turquoise, blue or white and the mk.2 version of the photon. It is somewhat involved to replace the lithium batteries but these lights aren't disposable.

I just rec'd several of these mighty personal lights and gave a couple away as graduation and birthday presents. I kept three for myself and my wife. These things are really impressive.
For such a tiny light they give off a good amount of illumination. I took a couple of the guys at work to the men's bathroom and turned out the lights, it was pitch dark, until I turned on the photon. Needless to say they all want one!! They won't replace all my surefire flashlights, but in a pinch they will hold their own!!!
I would not hesitate to recommend a photon micro light. I purchased mine from Tim Flanagan at
noreastknives@bigfoot.com
Tim is a great person to deal with and has great prices. He answered all my emails and delivered what I wanted on very short notice.

The reason for this request for opinions is... As a newly opened Knife store we were considering giving them as gifts with a purchase. Something like "Free Photon Microlight with $100.00 purchase". We are interested to see if they carry a value amongst our fellow knife enthusiasts. Thanks for all feedback. Come and see us at... www.razorsedgeknives.com . Mention Blade Forums and you'll recieve 10% off your first order!!

The are great little lights with a very bright bulb(mine is white). The only problem I have with mine is that when exposed to rain(I keep mine attached to my backpack), the moisture completes the circuit and it stays on until it dries out. Because of this I now have it attached to my keyring.

I absolutely _love_ my photon IIs, I have an orange (on keyring, clipped to Micra) and a white (on jacket) -- unobtrusive, long-lasting, and, of course, BRIGHT. Not gotten them wet yet (surprising, since I live in Seattle) so I can't comment on how they perform under those conditions..

Matt; oh, yeah. Knife owners are mostly light freaks as well. I think your idea of bundling a Photon with a knife to be an excellent one.

K Williams: go to a pool or spa supply store and get a container of silicone grease with Teflon. Take your Photon II apart, and coat the batteries and LED leads sparingly with the grease. This will make it fairly water resistant.

There is a waterproof Photon on the market now, but it is the same as a Photon I, i.e. no 'hands-off' on switch. You have to squeeze it to keep it on.

Hope this helps, Walt

I have used the Photon Microlights (LRI) for 3 years and changed to the Lithum Microlight about a 1/2 year ago for better battery life and ease of use.

Well, I've just got every color except yellow and IR. I've given them to all my friends and my girlfriend. Excellent for its' size, it's a good piece of insurance in a power outage.

I've got the turquoise Photon II & use it all the time. I've got this micro screwdriver (to repair my glasses) on my key-fob, & so I can change the batteries easily. I keep a spare set at the bottom of my coat pocket in a re-seal-able tiny plastic ba...

I've used it to walk through woods, find things dropped in Movie Theatres, read things etc. I never carry a flashlight anymore cos the Photon II takes care of it. Having said that, I want an E1 Executive from SureFire which is their new 'smallest' light using one 3V DL123A battery. I used to have a few different 2AAA flashlights until I got the Photon II, and as I've got a SureFire 12PM, I know that the E1 will provide the intense white light I've come to expect. My advice is, upgrade the lamps in your Maglites or buy a better flashlight.

I heard that LED bulbs can be used in the smaller Maglites. Anyone tried it?

There is plenty of information regarding the Photon Micro-Lights at http://www.nielsenlabs.com

They have a brief description on what each colors is best used for. Like red is good for preserving night vision-great for airplane cockpits. The new green is nice for outdoor use because of it's nice wide angle beam.
