Okay, have the batteries, 000 philips, and the photon a part. Goes back together fine, but not light. Lights fine without top...

LEDs are diodes. Diodes will only work with the current flowing in the right direction. Try switching the LED around and see if that works. If it doesn't put the old battery setup back in and try that both ways. If that doesn't work you fried your LED

Then it sounds like your switch(es) are not hitting the diode lead. Goto www.photonlight.com and see if they have instructions there. They also have a discussion forum that might have a post already on assembly problems. Walt Welch and Tim Flanagan might be able to answer your question better. I only have a Photon I and my wife comandeered that one. So I don't have anything in front of me to reference. I'm assuming you have the Photon II.

Something changes when you put the top on -- the top pushes a wire or something out of place. Peer at it as you put the top on, peering in the crack just before it disappears and you can't see any more -- you can probably see what's being disturbed. Then you can move that thing a little, probably pushing it with your screwdriver, trying different positions for it until you find one that lets the light work but that wire or whatever that thing is won't be moved when you put the top on.

This kind of thing is a lot easier to do than to explain! Incoherent as it is I think I've explained the principle the best I can -- now you just have to apply it, fiddle with the thing until it works. If you can't see what's being moved by the top, guess -- just keep guessing and pushing wires and things around in there and trying it until you get it.

It sounds as though you have allowed the lower (short) lead to slip too far to the side. Try pushing down on the top lead and batteries when you have everything in place. This will often cause the lower lead to snap back into its' groove.

This and other tips on troubleshooting I posted on the Photon website: http://www.photonlight.com/index2.html

Hope this helps, Walt
