I am no stranger to Emerson Knives. They have never been my thing really. Ive worked on many and played with many. Being a fan of the snub nose model and always lusted to hold a 13. Something about the sweeping point of the bowie sucks me in. From the lil temperance to the chinook and even an old liner lock Cold Steel Night Force.
As fate would have it. A forum member that contacted me with one, just so happened to be staying about 3 miles away from my residence. So I was able to check this thing out in person for an asking price of 125$.
I payed 123$
.
Excellent condition 2006 #579 Plain edge 13. Matte finish. Sweetness.
The first thing I did was take this puppy apart and simply clean and tweak it to my preference. Perfect lock up dead center of blade with just a hint of stick like I would want with an Emerson, The best ones I have handled had a nice minor stick and never slipped. I also make sure that there is no lube on the knife or parts. I prefer to allow it to run dry on the washers.
This thing is really a prime specimen for perfect fit and function. And locks up better than most liner locks I have handled on the market.
The finish of the scales to the liners is a bit rough as well as where the backspacer meets but only if you look closely..
I dont care its exactly as an Emerson should be. I plan on adding a chamfer to the handles and working them any how and making a new back spacer. Besides that I will take the coating off the thumb disk and enjoy. Its ideal as is. Once the handles are rounded the handle will fit like a glove, although it already does. The hook at the but of the handle makes for a nice easy grip with three fingers to chop.
So the chisel grind thing has always bother me, but it will sharpen out over time . They also put a nice high 15 degree edge on so that makes things easy. This knife is deadly sharp after a fast touch up. Im impressed.
I also like the set up with the stop pin. It is so easy to make a new one from a drill bit shank.
Once I use it more I will add some photos and impressions during extended use and food prep.
Also, I just so happened to get this sheath from a forum member a month back as an extra in a deal. It just so happens to fit this knife perfect!

Next to me other knife, My EDC Ti-lock.
This Tilock is dear to me and I need to use it a little bit less. I use it just as hard as any thing else, but when I work my late shift. The 13 is my new baby. This is a nice duo to own. The only other liner lock on the market I care for is the military at this time. But I must say I far prefer the liner to be titanium than steel, it just grabs so much better.
