G'Day, Just received the other Schrade Walden J.C. Higgins Marine Knife 57234 without the 'D' handle and alternative yellow dive sheath.
Photos of both together as promised with the Schrade Walden Frogman's Defender.
Previous threads have full details of these knives being the Schrade Walden SD40 and SD41.
I was surprised at the excellent condition of this J.C.Higgins which still had etch intact and no diving usage. <Surprisingly all 3 still have their respective etches intact>
With only 850 total production these photos of both variations J.C. Higgins knives and sheaths with box etc could be considered unique.
One of the photos has the original Schrade collection "wall "photo as these knives appeared in their original Schrade display from Larry Vickery's site.
My final photos for this forum will be as previously promised the Rare Herman Williams Schrade Folding stag hunters with brass shields and brass bolsters which should arrive this week. Any future photos of mine will be submitted to Larry Vickery's Schrade site exclusively as I really dont need all this recent bullS....Life's too short to get too excited over what is basically a metal implement IMHO. .....Let's see a photo then Jackie well done they are reasonably scarce.... they "feel" nice in the hand don't they? Yours had to come from United Kingdom didn't it? I nearly had 4 as I remember mate!..... Hoo Roo

Was there any paperwork accompanying any of these knives, or just the box text? Any of the boxes still have Sears price stickers?

An admirable group of unique knives guys! And thank you for sharing them with us here. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!

Michael

Larry.

Thank you. It does feel great. Excellent knife.

I was lucky to get it. Didn't know they were scarce. You beat me on the one prior to.

One is all I want for my collection. Now, I need to find a SD-40 which I see you got a beauty.

I'll take a couple pictures of it tomorrow and post it. Yes, it came from Edinburgh, Scotland.

Michael,

The one I got had no paperwork nor a sheath but I'm happy with it.

Great! How many other knives were produced by Schrade I wonder where you actually need 2 to make one set as a collector as its unusual to have contrasting variations of the same knife and the sheath as well. I wonder why they did' that 'change to the sheath as the 850 were only produced 1961 - 65.....hardly a long production run.
I'l keep my eyes out for you Jackie....I mean I'll let you know by email if I see one DURING auction. Hoo Roo

303, you certainly seem to spend a lot of effort and money in showing off.

And two threads to celebrate and justify your purchase of the fake calender knife?

..at least I know how to spell calendar correctly....after your post on Codger you really should get yourself a Manager and stop handling yourself....

Enough.

Stay with the program here or take the personal stuff to W&C.

We are not going to allow this forum or any of the other discussion forums to sink to the level where personal insults are acceptable.

If that is not acceptable to you. It would be better to confine your posts to W&C or the Cove.

Just bringing this thread up for Jackie re his question the Schrade Walden SD41 Divers Marine Knife. Photos show the serrations. I have some literature on the SD41 Jackie and I will find out if 'D' guard is stainless as well. This was a heavy duty knife according to Schrade at the time and I would presume all stainless steel.
Have you spied another Jackie???
<I am sorry for bringing up a thread with decent photos that had to end in the unrelated banning of some clown.....so dont read it all please> Hoo Roo

Jackie, some additional info on the SD41 and I think you can safely say this knife was constructed all Stainless Steel.
Debbie Chase Schrades unofficial historian stated in 1998 that the 'SD41 was manufactured 1961 to 1965 and was titled "Frogman's Defender Deluxe Stainless Steel Skin Divers Heavy Duty Knife with Knuckle Guard. The SD40 manufactured at the same time had no Knuckle Guard. Both were made to Government Specifications which included a salt water resistant plastic handle and heavy gauge stainless steel blade.'
'Schrade only received orders for 850 knives total in its 5 year lifetime.'
It's interesting they made 2 different sheaths one for the "cutless" and one without the 'D' guard.
Hope this helps...my other diving knives have similar serrations. Hoo Roo

Larry,

Thanks for the info. I'm preparing a Pictorial Data Sheet for the SD-41. If I come across another J.C. Higgins, I'll let you know. Now, if I'm lucky enough to find a SD-40 or a Frogman’s Defender, it may be a different story.:) Need those two.

Larry, you have a great day and God "Bless",

Jackie

Thanks for the pictures and info, thats what makes the forums fun and informative. In my about 12 years of Schrade collecting i've gotten more good info here than anywhere, thanks again,G.M

Thanks G.M. and Jackie...many thanks for the "heads up" on that 13 Colonies 'Connecticut' on the Bay in your private Forum email to me <the way an active auction should work>..its now winging its way to Oz to join its 11 brothers and sisters and its 'Ma' Stag Clasp......now all I need is the 'New Jersey' to complete...thanks again Jackie....Hoo Roo.

Hey, thanks for sharing. Don't let the nay-sayers get you down. I even learn something when people are beating me into the ground. If something doesn't make sense have the fortitude to hold your ground. There is no rule that you have to follow the masses.
