Needed to get out of the house a while after dealing with sick kid and then an upper respiratory infection in myself the last week...I was going stir crazy.

You'd think it was warmer looking at some of the pics...

And yes, it is frozen over, about ¾ of an inch of ice.

Last week it was nearly 60F, I was wearing short sleeves, we were setting records for winter pollen counts, and I was listening to frogs in the local ponds. Now you can see their eggs in various states of frozen.

Plenty of good fuel and tinder for fire starting, but I didn't want to sit still...done quite enough sitting lately.

I found some wood I wanted to experiment with and make a firebow, but honestly I really didn't feel like it...I was already packing two ferro rods, a lighter, and some matches if I actually needed a fire. But I did bring some of it home with me to play with later.

It was cold, and I was tired and felt weak after only a few miles, but man it was still good to just get out for a bit.

.

Excellent pictures as usual. I usually look forward to winter more than any season but after this years half ass winter I agree I can't wait for the canopy to return.

Hope you feel better soon!

I get up every morning feeling like that! We have had a very easy winter up here in MT also. Been some good walking around weather.

You've got full grown daffodils already. I saw the first little sprout of the year yesterday and that's uncommonly early. Good looking combat / utility...

Nice photos of your hike, hopefully it cured your cabin fever a bit. The thorny vine picture reminds me of a Buffalo Thorn tree. Very nice closeup.

Thank you for the hike pics.
I hope it lifted your spirits up !!

I'm a little stir-crazy lately also and need to get out myself. Just too much work going on.

Good stuff buddy. Crazy how a cold will kick your wind out on your walks isn't it?

Sucks you haven't been feeling good. Hope you are back to 100% soon.

Great pics. It has actually been below average here for the past 3 days, but that isn't going to last long, unfortunately.

Great post Mist. I heard the frogs last week and thought man is that frogs already?

Nice knife also.

Excellent pics, prob felt good to get out huh?

I had the same shit happen to me, my daughter was sick then I got the same cold......it was brutal

Waiting for the weather to change a little so I can the hell out on a hike

Great pics man That spartan looks sweet.

Thanks, yeah it is really sweet.

Thanks man, I'm a little better today than yesterday so getting there.

I love autumn after the heat of summer, and I'm usually good with winter...but this winter has just been a soggy mess and crazy temps. Pretty much no snow other then flurries and no good ice formations. The ground won't dry because of all the rain and no plants to drink it up. So yeah, at this point I'm just ready for the canopy to come back.

The temps have been mild here...just really soggy and muddy...

Yep early here too, and those were up on the mountain. It was odd hearing the croaking frogs last week too. Yeah, Mr. Harsey does some great designs and awesome grinds.

Always enjoy your posts

Thanks for taking the time

Thanks Bill glad you enjoy them, nothing all that special this time...but great to get the h_ll out of the house a while.

You always have magazine quality photos. Thanks.

Thanks Crossada, glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks, yeah it was great just to get out a while. Those brier vines are everywhere here, and can be really painful to find the hard way in the dark and that one isn't even one of the large ones. I've had them 3/4" long buried into different parts of me at different times...I have several scars from them.

Thank you for the hike pics.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed them, and yeah it definitely did wonders for my mood. Luckily I was at a point where I could work at home for a while.

Glad to hear you feel better brother :D And I'm loving that Spartan too...if only I had the scratch :(

Definitely better today than four days ago...it was one of those times when I felt like I was going to die but afraid I wouldn't...

Yeah, they not exactly inexpensive, but not exactly inexpensively made either. The ergos are fantastic, the CPM S35VN has a heck of a heat treat, the SpartaCoat is really some impressive stuff, and it handles like a dream. Gotta love that all of their outsourced work is done by companies that are owned/manned by wounded and disabled vets, and the all US origin materials is another plus.

Good stuff buddy. Crazy how a cold will kick your wind out on your walks isn't it?

Thanks Ken. Yes it does, it was funny...I was just to happy to be out to notice at first, but sure felt it on the way back to the truck.

Thanks man, getting there slowly but surely. Tonight we're getting sleet and rain but supposed to be nearly 50 tomorrow I think. It's been the craziest winter I can recall...

Thanks man. Yeah it was odd. One of the guys that works at the store I shop at saw me outside leaned against my truck staring at the marsh and walked out to see what I was staring at. Then he noticed it and said "well they're a bit early aren't they?" Yep, I'm diggin' the Hunter!

Hope your feeling better 'Ol Bud....nice pics!

Thanks man, it's getting better. Glad you enjoyed them!

It was awesome! Between all the rain and then getting sick I felt like I had been trapped in the house for weeks lol.

Yeah, that's the way it always goes, as soon as they start school they all start sharing colds and bringing them home...

Hopefully you'll get a break soon and get to get out there, it's good for the spirit.

Nice pics, looks very similiar to my neck of the woods.

Thanks man, never been to Minnesota, but it sounds like I'd like it there :)

Very nice pics but I gotta know how that Spartan feels at work out in the bush??? It looks so good and costs so much I don't know if I'd let it play outside:D

I hope it is good weather when I come down there later this year. Don't need the bad weather at that time. I want to get my nephew some good outdoors time when I'm there. Should be a good trip.
