Had the distinct pleasure of touring the factory and camping with the BRKT crew recently. We had a real good time in some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. There are some great new knives coming out of MI and I had the opportunity to play with more than a handful of them. This is going to be an annual event and next year it will likely be in mid August. You guys should look to open up your schedules so you can attend. Mike, Reid, Jimmy and all the rest are great hosts. Just take a look at some of the photos from the trip and the outting.

Bingo. A little something for Big John and me. These are awesome big blades.

Nice shot of you and Mike and Reid!

Cool to see Mike grinding and stropping some knives!

What model are the knives without scales in the cardboard box?

Some good colors in those leaves. My first thought was BRKT khuks, as well. I like the looks of the CS with micarta scales though.

Kevin,

Thanks for the great photos.

What is your initial impression of the Scagel fixed blade? I thought that I would have no interest in those when I first heard about them, but they are looking pretty good.

Thanks,

Phil

The scaleless knives are new PSK's in 154cm. I will definitely add one of them to my short list of blades to buy. The Scagel is a good knife. To me, it feels and looks like a blade a Gaucho would carry. I tested one that weekend to do a lot of mid sized knife chores and it held up great. You will never get a chance to beat on an original with the prices being through the rough but the new ones are a faithful rendition of them and really fun to play with. Wait until you see the sheath, pretty funky in a good way!

Great post Kev, thanks for bringing this forward and keeping it real

Looks like a Blast

This World needs more like him

Let me just piggyback on Kevin's post and say that it was a great event. We had a great time and there were alot of knowledgeable and enjoyable people there. The Wilderness Learning Center folks (Marty, Aggie, Bobby, Big John, and of course Kevin himself) bring a wealth of knowledge that they freely share. Top that off with all the knowledgeable people from Bark River (especially Mike Stewart himself instructing on knife geometry and sharpening) and Sharpshooter Sheaths (Reid, Everett, and Alicia), and you have the makings of a great event.

It was fun to play around with some of the new knives, like the Scagel. The knives that really surprised me though were the BlackJack Knives (Jet Pilot and 125). They were much more effective at bushcraft tasks, than I would have expected from internet photos. I guess that is a testament to the fantastic convex grinds the Bark River crew put on them.

As Kevin mentioned, next year this event will probably be in August. It would be great if a few more people from WSS on Bladeforums were able to show up.
