Well, here is my pre-98 spydie endura.

I've used it for around 3 and 1/2 years now. I still carry it occasionally. I managed to drop it tip down onto concrete - resulting in the different tip from being reprofiled. The blade is covered in scratches, which are pretty hard to see in the picture. The zytel is still in amazingly good shape. Lock up is still solid, and it has no bladeplay. Its done everything from cutting open a beer can to sawing through thick green branches. Still one of my favorites!

Here is one I have had for about 35 years (give or take a couple). I learned to sharpen on this puppy.

You guys are freaking me out!

Here's my old Buck 120. It's about 26 years old (that's right, I bought it when I was 3 years old

)

I've used it as a chisel, shovel, hammer, crowbar and sometimes....even as a knife!

The photo makes it look better than it does in person. And it's still going strong!

to all you cat lovers...does the tail get in the way?

Great thread. Somehow missed not2sharp's original.

An interesting sidelight -- to me at least -- is the loss of sharp point definition in some of the blades, particularly what was evidently a spey blade on Gus' stockman/whittler.

I would really enjoy seeing other knives that served as sharpening training knives amongst their other chores over the years. See whether the points are still distinctive, or have been lost. Ed Fowler mentioned something about points disappearing in a recent Blade article, I believe.

Thanks again guys, hope that others follow your interesting lead. Sorry, but I've no photo capability -- well at least until I learn to use the scanner that I have found no place for in 2+ years. (Stupid desire to keep the bidding going on my first E-bay experience. "Win" was totally unexpected nor wanted.)

I did as well... Then I spent an hour with my Spyderco Military a Sharpmaker and the Ultra fine stone. Well I now have a 15 deg angle Military finished on the Ultra stone.

Wow! Its mad sharp, not as sharp as say 6m would be, this CPM 440V is a bit weird to sharpen, but its scary sharp! When I use the tip of the tumb test, it removes a layer of skin, you can see it as a white powder on the blade edge. Now THAT is scary. Plus my arms are bald.

Actually, I've got a bunch of knives where the point is not as needle sharp as it used to be. My Schrade SP3 is really rounded, if I can get some pics I'll put them up.
