Hey, guys. I just recently started on putting together my own neck knife kit. It's alot of brand new gear, but I wanted to share it with you guys. Also, there's a little addition that I think is awesome. I know I need a few more things to make it a solid kit, but I think it's pretty good for a start. Anyways, here goes a list of the items included and a few explanations about why they are there. Please stick through this, guys. I promise there are pictures further down the thread. :D

1. First off, I'd like to start with the BK14. Why is it there? Well, I'm a Beckerhead. Duh, and it works amazing for a neck knife.

2. Ranger bands, self explanatory.

3. Straw stuffed with PJ cottonballs and duct tape wrapped around the straw. Another self explanatory. I wanted to add more duct tape, but the first time I tried the straw got too "fat" and was stretching the ranger band out to the point my firesteel wasn't going to hold in there.

4. MRE hot beverage bag. Threw this one there just in case, maybe it can be used to carry water or something.

5. LMF Scout 2.0. Don't ask why I chose the Dark Green. I'm realizing now how much of a stupid decision it was. If I drop the thing in the woods, it's lost. Not to mention, it doesn't even match. The firesteel works great though. I started a few fires yesterday from natural tinder to try it out.

6. Azwelke OD green kydex sheath. Told him I wanted it for a neck knife kit. Azwelke came strong with it. Awesome sheath. Thanks again, man.

7. CountyComm SO-LED. Cool little light and it works great. I seen people putting the photon lights on their kits, but I noticed that the photon required you to use one hand to keep the light on. The SO-LED has a switch so I can use it hands free. I also tried to get "creative" and use the clip it came with to attach it to the loop of the paracord that came through the eyelets from my adjustable...necklace? I know it's not a necklace, but the word I'm thinking of isn't coming to mind. You'll see in the pictures. :)

8. Last, but definately not least. I saw a post from RoyalPalmz in which he posted a picture of his BK14 and beside it was one of his slings. I thought it looked cool, definately something I hadn't seen before, so I contacted him about some information. I had a great idea for the sling. I asked him wether or not he thought it could be used as a "necklace" for a neck knife kit, yet still function as a sling. He tried it out and emailed me later, showing me pictures and verifying how well it worked. So, I got one of the slings from Mr. RoyalPalmz. It's awesome. He did a real great job on it, and it's very creative. I started thinking about how I could use it as a necklace(maybe the word is lanyard?) for the kit, yet be able to take it off easily and use the sling for it's intended purpose. After a few minutes, I came up with an idea. I kept the adjustable necklace on, but fed the stands from the sling through the same eyelets, coiled the leftover paracord, and put a cordlock on it just for good measure. Some might think it's not going to lay flat or be too bulky, but it's really not. It works great. Plus, Mr.RoyalPalmz left plenty of paracord, so you could actually cut a good bit off and it would still work fine. Now, I have a pretty much "padded" necklace for my kit, a sling, and plenty of paracord if it's ever needed. :) The sling can be taken off, and the kit still worn around the neck thanks to the adjustable one I left on. Thanks, RoyalPalmz. I'm going to enjoy this. Lots of childhood memories.

Now, you guys are probably very tired of my rambling or simply just skipped all of it. Here's your pictures. Sorry, RoyalPalmz, I was so excited about putting it on my kit that I didn't even take any pictures of the sling by itself. I'll be taking some more, though. I'll try to do some "in-use" pics.

Yes, I am in my longjohns. Just got off work, heading to bed. Thanks alot, guys. I really apologize for the post being so long. I like to ramble.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you guys are interested in the sling, just shoot RoyalPalmz an email. I'm sure he can give you all the information you need.

Yep very cool indeed, have you tried out the sling yet? How is your accuracy? I think slings and atlatls are going to be my next experiments. Chris

Not yet. As soon as the package came in the mail, I had to head out to work. RoyalPalmz told me that longer strings will increase distance, shorter strings will increase accuracy. We'll see how it works as soon as I get the time to go try it out. I'm excited because the last time I even held a sling was when I was probably...10. I'm rusty lol. I will keep you guys updated, though.

I like necker kits, even though I rarely actually use a kit around a necker. Thanks for sharing with us.

Me either, actually but when I walk the dog doing some "recon" I like to go pretty minimal. She is enough to handle, I don't need to be lugging around a pack and some big blades aswell. Lol.

Thank you guys for all the feedback. That's what I was wanting for myself to improve, and also so Mr.Palmz could see what people thought of the sling aswell.

Nice minimal neck kit...not like some of the ones I've seen! This one looks just 'right'.

I really love the ideawith the sling/necklace. I have tried hand made/woven slings before, perhaps not with such an well woven pouch, and found them surprisingly accurate.

Thanks for posting.

I thought it seemed pretty close to "right" myself. I still want to add some jute twine and mistwalker gave me the idea of throwing a small ceramic rod on there too. Never know when you may need to touch up the edge.

Also, thank you very much for posting that information. I tried checking out YouTube on some sling tutorials and I wasn't aware there were so many different methods. When I was a kid, I always just used the ol' helicopter method. Lol no wonder I wasn't too good with a sling. Thank you again.

Yeah, I think the idea of the neck kit should be this minimal.

What do you think to affixing some wet and dry to the sheath, instead of a ceramic rod?
You could use double sided tape or adhesive, and maybe two different grits for each side??
Just a thought.

Falkniven do an adhesive backed sharpener for attaching to their zytel sheaths, but the above is a cheaper alternative.

Lol on the helicopter method! Get your eye in and I reckon its a viable hunting system....and a lot easier to carry and maintain than most.

Kind regards.

Great idea. I forgot all about some sandpaper. I could put a piece in there with the MRE bag. I'll have to do that as soon as I get some more sandpaper. Thanks for that, man. Before I do, I'll check out that sharpener you mentioned from Falkniven.

On the sling thing. I imagine it could actually be used for small game when you really get the practice. I have actually witnessed someone take a crow out with one before, so I know it's possible. Luck or not. I just need alot of practice. I'll atleast get some pics up, and hopefully maybe even a video.

Excellent set up!

Thank you for the pics!

Neat. Photons have a switch that keeps them on BTW.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I probably never had a real photon light. Well, maybe I'll invest in one of those to make it slimmer profile.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Working on more pictures.
