STORYTIME. Instead of going into big detail, I'll keep it simple. Me and my dad had a contest, and I put him WAY down. What was this contest about? Knives. (Now I got your interest, eh?) So, imagine this. We, as in, my dad and a friend of his, installed a second glass door in front of our front door a while ago. Its a pretty door for the price he paid, but I like my doors to be solid heartwood, steel, concrete, some kind of durable substance that would NOT give in if tapped by a Lifehammer or something easily accessible to criminals. Anyway, so a pretty, but unfinished door was installed a while ago onto the house. After some, well actually, a lot, of procrastination, the door was finished with the right screws today, and fitted with plastic, too-long sheathes to cover the screws. And guess who trimmed the plastic like a boss? Go on, guess...okay, enough messing around, it was me. I whipped out my Lehman's utility knife and a rubber mallet, and batoned right through it in about two hits. While my dear father decided to take it on with an expensive kitchen knife, and wasted 40 seconds trying to saw through it. With an unhoned, unsharpened, non serrated edge...it is dishonor incarnate to say I am related to a man who does not believe in sharpening his tools...just kidding. He can be cool sometimes, tolerable other times, and downright annoying, irritating, or even maniacal most of the time.
So, yeah, I was, for one shining moment today, the undisputed Man of the House. Pretty nifty, eh? Oh, yeah, explanation time. The reason why I labeled the thread as Photos was because by tomorrow, I will, (hopefully) make a trip to my Grandmothers house, where ancient tools that are several generations in age lay just WAITING for a photoshoot, and I hate to disappoint a pretty, patinated tool, much less ten or twenty of them at the same time. I might even head on over to the ToolMonger blog and see if they can identify the age of some of the tools. While I would ultimately love to receive at least one such tool as a birthday gift, I would also like to help my grandma out and se if they are actually worth something or if they are only beautiful in my eyes. Well, peace for now everyone.
David.
