for being a good boy at work, i was rewarded with a new macbook pro

i have both adobe photoshop cs3 and aperture 1.5. they are academic versions and lack any written documentation. it also has the new iphoto on it as well

i would like to buy 1 book on each to help me learn to use them. i am a hobby photographer and not a very good one at that. many years ago i had photoshop 3.5 and could never figure out how to use it.

any suggestions? my main interests are medical photography (where lighting issues are always a challenge) and sports/family stuff.

thanks!

I tried many of the Photoshop CS books from the library. All left me cold. I jumped on e-bay and found a set of DVD's from a company that does Adobe training. I am quite pleased with the package. It explains all the basics and advanced features while the video shows how to do things step by step. Not sure if I can post a link here, but if you are interested, give me a shout and I will pass on the info. Total with shipping was about $45, somewhat more than a book, but not that much more.

If you check out Photoshopusertv.com you can view a weekly video blog with tips inside the video but also links to pages with information on using photoshop.
Tutvid.com also has some basic tutorials or you can search youtube.com for photoshop tutorials and you can learn a lot.

All of these have helped me in my qwest to learn more about photoshop, of course a lot more information is avaliable on the web and most of it is free. If you prefer books the hosts of the Photoshop user TV blog are all writers and have written come very informative books on Photoshop
