Why do many people add "Pic heavy" or something similar to their thread titles when they (the threads, not the people) contain lots of pictures? Are there still people stuck with dialup in the US or something?

Some folks surf with their smart phones and the like. The pics don't display well, even if they have high speed and unlimited bandwidth.

Oh. Didn't think of that. While we're at it, does anyone here still have Dialup?

Only two out of every five Americans have broadband access at home and what there are like 330 million people here or something, that's a lot of people with no internet or dialup.

I always thought it was because people like pictures, and that it was placed to gain attention.

a lot of people don't even have internet ;)

I connect to Bladeforums in my own special way.

I tend to add that to my longer threads when I post on a couple of UK based sites because I have been fussed at for not warning people :) I don't personally know anyone who still uses dial-up.

Where did you get this number? If this two out of five people with internet, or just two out of five period?

Thats why I use that wordy ology. Hell, thats why I clicked on this thread, thought there'd be an ass load of pic's. I gotta say I'm a little disappointed.

I can't remember, I just started googling stuff and it came up a bunch of times. It's "two out of every five Americans have broadband access at home" I guess that means that two out five could get it home, weather they do or not they don't say.

Not sure about the source, but it looks good enough for me: http://www.internetworldstats.com/am/us.htm

77% of Americans (239,893,600 of 310,232,863) have internet at home. About 35% (85,287,100) of those 239,893,600 are broadband users. 2 out of 5 would be about 40%, so the number of broadband users is actually lower than your figure. I'm surprised. However, if you consider how many Americans have access to libraries (most of which have computers with broadband internet access), not to mention computers in the workplace with broadband, the number of Americans without access to broadband is likely to be very, very low.

Why on Earth does this interest me right now? I guess I'm just not interested in knife talk tonight... Hmm. Thanks for the distraction, Maethor!

There are lots of places around here where dial-up and satellite is all that's available. Satellite ain't much better than dial-up, at least the stuff my parents had wasn't.

When I bought my house, access to high-speed internet was a must.

I am in sales and travel - Panera, McDonalds and Chic Fil A are just a few spots you can nab free internet access. I think without sales people Panera would go out of business.
