Here is the pic of the knife I made for my uncle, the second knife I sold. The handle is bocote that I sealed and polished and the blade is A2 with a 600 grit belt finish, Heat Treated by Paul Bos to 60 RH. Anyone know how to lighten the colors up? The handle is more yellowish than the orange..

If anyone can lighten up the colors a little, feel free to do so. I am on my parents comp and it doesn't have the software.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Thanks, Mike! So what do you think of it? Blade overall is about 4", handle is about 3.75". Blade is convex ground cuz it is the only grind I can do on my POS 1x30. Steel Thickness is 1/8", slightly thinner on the blade, no tapered tang. Oh yeah, the cutout isn't sharpened. The way is was scanned makes it look like that with the bright line. I made this for my uncle to use as a deer skinner and general hunting knife.

Currently, I am working on several more blades, but I am stuck because my Grizzly Grinder that I ordered is on backorder. I am wokring on a 5" drop point out of 3/16" O-1, redoing my first 3 from 3/16" O-1 that got a bad HT. One is a 3.5" spear point, the other is a 3" drop point, the other one I don't know what it is, maybe a practice piece for grinding! I am also working on several from 1/8" 1095. A few 6" drop points, a 4" drop point, and a 4" recurved drop point...sorry, Dr. Lathe, couldnt resist! All are flat/convex ground. I am redoing some of the convex stuff with hand files to make them flat ground. What a PITA that is, but I am getting good practice and learning patience. I will try to get some pics scanned of them or try to draw them on my computer.

Nice work Taz.
Here's one more...

Kewl!!!
There's nothing at all wrong with an 1/8" thick blade with a convex grind!! That ought to be a real work horse and I bet your uncle will be mighty pleased with the way it performs.
Good luck on you others!

i use a 1x30 too. it takes a little practice but you can aget a pretty good flat grind on one if you are very careful. I like convex grinds alot though so i dont mind. they are better for the bigger knives imho

I don't mind convex grinds on bigger stuff, but I wanted a flat grind for my smaller pieces. The platen is a piece of junk and chatters excessively because it isn't stiff enough, so it doesn't flat grind well.

I had to make a new platen out of peice of flat stock. my biggest problem is with the belt not tracking well. i adjust it to where i want but as soon as i touch the steel to it the belt just slides away from where i need it
