I found this somewhat interesting. These items were found in Lincoln's pockets when he was assassinated.

Lincoln was carrying two pairs of eyeglasses, a lens polisher, a pocketknife, a linen handkerchief, a watch fob, a brown leather wallet with a $5 Confederate note, and nine newspaper clippings.

Very interesting thread:thumbup:

Makes me wonder what was in other presidents pockets.

$5 back then was probably about $150 by todays standards.

A cell phone with the numbers of his fun time ladies.

Its a 4 blade congress pattern. Don't know about the maker though.

It's a congress for sure probably about 3in long gauging from the 5 dollar bill.I'd sure like to get a closer look at it,it looks like to new of a knife to me.

I figure that the Confederate $5 was a souvenir. He obviously was not going to be spending it, and in any event the war ended (I think) 3 days after his assassination.

Thanks guys!

I think it might be bigger than that; bank notes back then were pretty large. Found one auction listing which put the size at about 7 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches with the same picture as on this page. So the height of the note is around 3.125" which would make the knife around 4.25" or maybe even 4.5".

I thought the knife looked about the same length as the bill but it's pretty hard to tell on an angle like it is.If it is a 6 blade congress it should be a big one.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the knife would be worth now, as a collectors item?

I'm assuming that your talking about the knife that was actually in his pocket,I'm still scepticle about the knife in the picture.I think it would be safe to say that it would take more money than I'll see in my lifetime.
