Hi all,

I just received my new Fred Perrin Street Bowie from Szaboinc.com

I am very pleased with it! The blade size is smaller than what I've read the Spyderco version is (which is exactly what I wanted)... this one measures 3 inches for the sharpened area of the blade, and 3.5 inches if the entire blade is included. The overall length is about 7 inches. Came with a Kydex neck sheath. Handle is black/grey micarta.

The finish has the expected "rough around the edges" (no pun intended) look of the Perrin blades, which quite appeals to me. It sort of makes it a "user" whether you like it or not, and gets the worry about the first scratch or blemish out of the way from the get-go... it comes that way!

I've included a picture alongside my Surefire E2E flashlight, to ge a size comparison (sorry for the lack of quality, but it's about the best I can do).

It was a pleasure dealing with Szaboinc. Sometimes it can be a challenge purchasing for Canadians, but not so with Mr. Szabo... excellent service!

Happy New Year,

W

I was also somewhat surprised at the length although I like it and have always liked his approach to knife making. YOU WILL NEVER SEE A PERRIN
SAFE QUEEN. I do have some reservations about his folders. IMHO they are flat ugly. If he would make some with one scale material I'd go for it but they all
have like four different colors.
Enjoy your USER knife.

What steel is it made of and what grind is used on it?

I couldn't see steel type listed at Szaboinc, however all of the Perrin knives at Bladeart are listed as 1050

I'm quite sure the grind is called 'chisel grind' (I'm not sure that I'm familiar with the different names of grinds); it is competely flat on one side, and the other side is as seen in the photo above.

I have a tiny Perrin tanto necker that I picked up at a NYC show about 6 years ago. Ran about $40.00. It looks like crap now, but still does the job. No worries about having to give it the satin-glove treatment.

Big fan of PERRIN myself own several of his knives. not everyones bag of tea as far as fit & finish ,but very functionable, origional, unique cutting tools! love my lagriffs and street surgen ,you might also try COUTEAUX CORTY.COM of France, ive ordered Freds products from them also. They carry stuff of his that BLADEART doesnt youve got a great knife there, collectors item.use and enjoy;)

Nice knife!! May have to pick one up to replace the Spyderco I had. My wife looked at it and started using it as a kitchen knife that was the last I saw of it.

Hope Fred won't mind:D

I'd think it would make a great kitchen knife.

Better not let my wife see mine when it gets here, thanks for the tip.

Looks like a very solid grip when holding that knife.

Yes... it feels very secure. I remember reading someone commenting that having the thumb and index finger so close together - due to the deep finger notch - gives a feeling of control and maneuverability.

It feels very nice and natural in the hand. If it wasn't frowned upon, it'd be fun to fiddle with this during some of the meetings that I have to sit through. Then again... perhaps they might end a bit more quickly... :D

Thanks all for the comments.

Looks like another to put on my list. I really like the Spyderco version, but its too big to legally carry here. I would love to have one with a 3 to 3.5" blade.

Are these stock items at Szaboinc, or something your order and wait for?

I phoned and waited a couple of weeks, in order to get the G10/micarta.

I understand that he may have received new stock at Szaboinc, as well as at Bladeart. Probably worth phoning to check.

Thanks, MIke. One last question - What type of sheath and carry method did it come with?

It's a Kydex sheath that could be used as a neck sheath, or anchored to a belt loop for pulling out of the sheath from being tucked in the waist or pocket.

It would be nice to have a horizontal belt sheath too. I'm thinking of looking into that sometime.
