I'm really curious now that I've thought of this, does anyone have a pic of the boss jack next to a basic 7?????

Wrong forum....this is the "for sale" section of Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard.

Ahhhh, I have been drinking, but I thought I was in the Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard forum, and wouldn't this be an appropriate question for this forum?

Oh well guess I need to drink more....

The post was moved, presumably by a moderator. I saw it while it was still in the "for sale" section, and I was deeply upset and offended by its being in the wrong place.

Deeply offended. :grumpy:

:D

Guess it got moved after I posted that. I swear I saw this in the for sale section........or have I been drinking too much?

Drinking too much? Is that English? What does "drinking too much" mean? :D

Wow, this thread got a bit side tracked, sorry canary.

I have no received an infraction, so I'm assuming it was in the right place initially :p

I'm just curious about the size because the boss jack feels so hefty in the hand. I remember the basic 7 being really, really, REALLY neutral. Like it didn't feel like there was anything in your hand. The basics were way lighter than comparable sized blades with full exposed tangs, but the weight of the boss jack is compelling. I think it's considerably smaller than the basic 7 but I can't be sure without seeing it.

I'm pretty sure I had a basic 7 and a 3rd gen satin jack at the same time back in the day, but the basic 7 is so weird that I never really committed it's dimensions to muscle memory.

The Boss Jack IS heavy in the hand...and it needs thicker scales, so that would make it even MORE hefty.

basic 7 is a really uncommon blade, you almost never see anything posted with a basic 3,5 or 7 these days. basic 9 still gets some love every now and again, but that 7's always been a bit of an outcast.

I have a 7, but the BOSS Jack was only here for 36 hours before I dumped it. I'll take the 7 to our Chop-In, maybe we can get your pic then.

Interesting comparison and thanks for the pic Dennis .... I have'nt got a Basic 7 and would like to try one .... but I do have a 7" Camp Tramp with a Res C handle done by Swamp Rat .... my thoughts on knives this size and balance are that the comfort of the handle is almost more critical because you need a number of extra chops to do the job compared to the longer blade offerings. The Camp Tramp still has a blade heavy feel and still has suprising chopping ability. For the slight extra weight but increased ability I prefer the Basic 9 but if 7 " was a "limit" ... such as orders given by a C.O. .... then a Res C handled 7 inch blade would my choice.

I am a big fan of the Basic blades .... you get very good chopping ability in a noticeably lighter package.

thats a lot closer than I thought they would be. I often forget how big the satin jacks are until I get another one or one that I'd had before. Even the batac seems big to me nowadays o_0

THANK YOU!!!

Yep. I let that B7 go after I got my Boss Jack. But that B7 was nice. The edge was near-dead when I found it. A bit of work on both sides and it came back to life. It was the first knife I made shaving sharp on my own.

It's ugly in person. Poorly stripped and beat on. But a great user.
