Does anyone have a pic of these 2 side by side? Contemplating trying either of them, just not sure which. Any pro or cons of the two? Too big, too small, nail nick placement a problem etc.....thanks for any insight gentlemen, I`m a muskrat noobie

I have been wanting a Case Muskrat for years, dunno why I have never bought one. It is one of my favorite patterns. I carry the Great Eastern Cutlery #66 Muskrat (Mink Skinner) regularly. It is slightly shorter (3 1/2") than the either size Case, but a little thicker than both. It is surprising to me that there is only a 1/4" difference between the full size and mini, of this pattern.

I'm sorry Dave I have no pictures, but, I'll share some thoughts.

The Muskrat is 3 7/8", has 3" blades and is available in Chestnut and Yellow CV. It's my favorite of the three sizes Case offers.

The Mini Muskrat is 3 5/8" and is available in Dark Red Bone CV. I was at a local store looking at one of these and it didn't look Dark Red... it looked PINK! The salesman refused to call it pink, instead, he called it salmon. Anyway, I would want to see the knife I bought in Dark Red to make sure I'd like the color.

The Tiny Muskratt is 2 3/4" an is not availabe in CV as far as I know.

The Muskrat is my favorite pattern and I'm sure that you'll find it very usefull whichever size you use.

Hey Tom, how are the blades on that 66. They look to me to be a little thicker than the Case.

Thanks ,

Paul

I don't have a Case 'rat to compare yet, but I would guess that the GEC's are a little thicker. They are still great slicers, the blades are thin but not flexible, like my Case toothpicks.

On the #66 I love how low the blades rest when the knife is closed. The nail nicks are perfect and the scales and liners are relieved just enough to get to them.

I do wish that one of the two brands offered a Muskrat with a single back-spring.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the added insight, much appreciated.
I`m with you on the dark red thought. I`m really not a fan of that red either and pics I`ve seen show exactly what you saw in person, all light red and pink. I wish they would do a "real old school" dark red, that I could get on board with. I`m ok with some SS too, although CV would be a bonus.

I was all set on deciding between a Case Mini or regular Muskrat, until Tom posted these GEC pics. Damn, that is a beauty, and I would imagine a little more heavy duty than the case. Crap, now the decision gets more difficult, lol.
