Pic Request: Crash Rat, Kill Devil, And Rattle Hawk.

There were photos in the Swamp section here on BF. I think Leatherman posted some.

Here's Leathermans post about it,

I need to sit down with the ruler and do some measuring, been up to my neck in work lately. Here's pics though! :D

First impressions of the KD is its very nimble for its size! Compact head would be devastating on a coconut, and that spike, WOW! If I really really wanted to take some stress out on a car hood this thing would make swiss cheese in a heart beat. :p It makes the Crash Rat seem clunky by comparison, but the CR is a different animal entirely. Apples and oranges.

Then there's the Rattle Hawk. Craves blood, all mine apparently. :p

I should probably move this to the Swamp Rat forum too, but since the Sniper Hawk & Rattle Hawk have just been released for ordering, I'll leave this in the Busse forum for easy access to the comparison pic(s).

Go Hawks! ;)

I wish I never saw this thread. Now I have to order myself a new Axe and a CG RMD!

All three are awesome, and all three are totally different animals, well Rats. :p

The Rattle Hawk is my favorite, closely followed by the Kill Devil. The Crash Rat is a beast in its own right.

I do like how light and nimble the KD is, very dangerous in the hands of a clumsy individual like me, my knee caps were screaming in terror. :D

No crash rat here, I never bought one due to how short the handle was, but I do have some bigger comparison shots of the two new ones for you.
The Rattle Hawk (.26 thick) is 5 oz heavier with a slightly longer reach than the much safer to use Kill Devil (.20 thick) which easily out chops any of the other Bussekin I have tried.

This pic shows the difference in overall length

And here is some INFI (BWM) to compare the size, along with the KD stacked on the RH so you can see just how little difference in reach there actually is between your hand and the end of the chopping edge between them.

Here is a size comparison of the Kill Devil with some smaller blades and a rucki... these are definitely tomahawks and NOT axes.

After spending some time with both, I think the Rattle Hawk is awesome to look at and probably use while the Kill Devil Sniper Hawk is a tremendously useful design that impresses me more with each use.
Here are two holds I can not use with the Rattle Hawk for obvious reasons and something to consider for your needs.

Thanks for the pics, it really helps with the over all scale of the two.
Am I seeing two shades of black on the scales? They look so different.

Any time. :) The orange hawk has OD Green instead of black, it is the "official G10 colors of the Swamp" version from Blade, just like yellow/black are for Busse.

Sorry, I was referring to the black Micarta in the overall length pic.

Doh... got it :o, yeah those are two separate batches of very different looking black canvas micarta that I received on the same order shipped together.
I thought one might just be more dried out than the other, but I have been unable to get the lighter one to stay dark like the other.

That is my biggest reason for generally disliking the Black Canvas micarta. I went ahead and ordered it on my RH, so I'm taking a gamble on it again. :o Hopefully I'll get the darker stuff, as I don't really care for the lighter greenish-looking stuff.

That's what I thought, Its all good unless someone is trying to put a set together.

Just a tip: You may want to relay that info to the shop directly as it may increase your odds of successful hoping. ;)
If that doesn't work out for you, I don't mind the lighter stuff... just saying.
It doesn't bother me enough to worry about it though as my bruiser collection is all different shades of blue, which is part of how collecting knives released over several different years goes.

Good point, I think I'll send a PM off to Josh. Thanks!

Thanks for the comparisons.

Not doing my collection any good. (I would have said bank account, but it will be a sale from other Busse that would fund one of these meanies!).

I have been throwing hawks more than a decade, so the thought of tossing these makes me smile!

here are a few more pics for you...no RH but I have the other two
and a new Family photo :D
