Hey there,
I am fairly new to the Swamp, and have a question:
Anybody got a pic of a HR LM and the RatManDu together, I am curious about the differences. My next Rat will either be that or the M6... as a "small camp knife"...

Only fair that I post a pic of my 2 rats

Snapped a quick pic so you could see size difference. Pic's not so great, but it'll do for a quick comparison.

Handles look identical. Blades are very different.

That's perfect! They do seem to be a fair bit bigger, makes the HR look stubby!

Now... do you have an M6 to add to the picture? :D
Thanks,
Rob

No M6. Sorry.

I'm assuming those scales are well-oiled on your HR-LM. Do you have to repeately oil? Mine were that black, but they've worn gray again. Seems like Skunk posted a trick to keep them dark over on the Busse forum, but I can't remember it.

Yup, oiled for the pic. Notice in the sheath pic they're light with smudges... got lazy and only did one side... they lighten in a week or so. I can't remember the trick either.

Anybody got recommendations on M6 vs RatManDu for "small camp knife"?

Not so sure I'd consider the M6 a "small" camp knife. The blade may only be 6inches, but the overall knife is pretty heafty. It's more like the small end of a what would be considered a large knife. Hell, I don't think there is anything I couldn't throw at my M6.

Thanks!
Looks like the M6 and the RatManDu have the same handles as the HRLM, very comfortable.
Is the M6 1/4" or 3/16"?

For those that have handled both how does the G10 compare with micarta?
Thanks,
Rob

I think the Ratmandu and the HRLM have about the same size handle but I am pretty sure that the M6 and Mojos are bigger handle. +1 on M6 being closer to a large knife than a small knife. I forgot to ask but I think my Ratmandu has a G-10 handle, it feels a lot smoother than micarta anyway.

If it's black, it's G-10. If it's tan, it's micarta. Those were the only two options I saw, at least.

Ratmandu next to another rodent (and an Anniversary Steel Heart) not quite a Howling Rat, but from the same taxanomic order ...

This is a good picture.

The Yard keeper has a profile that is almost identical to a Howling Rat. Only the Choil and blade thickness are different.

It is so close that I managed to fit my Yard Keeper in to my Howling Rat's On Scene Tactical Kydex sheath. The fit was tight, I wouldn't carry it that way but that shows how close they are.
