Anyone had their HHFSH DC bead blasted???

Just stripped mine today and thinking about having it done....just need motivation.:D

THANKS,

Stump

Pretty sure that resinguy had an Easton Trunk Show satin HHFSH DCBB'd and IIRC, it looked very sweet.

Yep... Found the post! :)

Often, the best presents are the ones you get for yourself. I had wanted a Heavy Heart w/mags for some time, and intended to strip it and maybe put a little polish on the grind bevels. Eventually I scored one with std scales from Knife Hunter. Then I saw the very nice pics posted by Gerberblades of the spa job that the Shop did on his HH, and decided that would be the way to go.

Fast forward a few months to the Easton Show, and on Saturday of that weekend we finally got some pics, and our first look at the smooth bolt variants.

A satin HH, with hand shaped micarta. Perfection!

Gotta have it.

I made a late call to a proxy (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU) and to my surprise one was still available.

SCORE!

While waiting for my knife, an idea came upon me. Wouldn't it look cool with a DCBB finish? But could it be done with the scales on?

Resolution of that question had to wait until Garth came back to work after a no doubt, well-deserved vacation.

YES! it could be done, he said.

So, with a big THANK YOU to Garth for a beautiful job, I now have what may be a unique knife. The DCBB looks great, the bolts have a cool coarse look, and the micarta has just a little texture.

Perfection, improved.

Man, I forgot how nice that looks. ...Might have to send in one of mine...! :D

Note that the knife pictured here started out as factory Satin finish. Stump Buster, if you have an original HHFSH and stripped it, it probably looks rough under the coating. Mine does (yes, have one of those, too) Does the spine on yours looks like Jerry cut it with a laser while drinking? It would take the Custom Shop some work to clean up an old rough CG blade to prepare it for the DCBB process.

Here's my baby, after I stripped and sanded it,

Here it is after the DC finish was added :)

It's funny you asked....I thought (and was kinda hoping) there would be some INFI dimples under the coating, but it looks like it was once a satin blade that was lightly hit with some sand paper to rough it up a little then coated. There is a slight light bronze tint in the steel where the coating was removed and some darker staining that looks like cold bluing on various parts of the spine, tang and handle areas. If it had dimples, I was going to leave it rough, but when I saw it was 95-98% satin, I got to thinking about some other options (Finish the satin job, which wouldn't take much work at all, or DCBB it). I'll see if I can get some pics of it today.

Again...Nice Knife My Friend!!!

I stripped and beadblasted my old HHFSH. (plus a couple handle mods)

The dimples were a bit distracting, so I asked Horton to do some pimpin'. Came back looking like this...

After I sold it, I came to regret it. So recently I picked up a convex FSH that someone got factory beadblasted...

...I'm just finishing the handle mods. It needs a fresh bead blasting and re-attachment with tube rivets. :D

Good luck with yours, Stump Buster!

You can just make out the slight bronze discoloration where the bare steel was exposed from some chopping...

The blued looking area of the spine and choil...

and since we went out for a quick walk, I HAD to stick her into sumpthin'....

She's still got a little bit of coating in the talon holes and at the rear tang, but she's pretty clean and smooth now that the coating is gone.

Still not sure what I'll do, but She definately needs to be re-named now (unless she get's blasted AND blued)!!! I may just have Brother Nate finish the satin job and fix my sorry attempt at sharpening the edge with an edge pro.

I'll keep ya posted.

THANKS AGAIN for all the great pics!!!

This was one I sold and miss. The bottom blade was a full flat grind HHFSH .27 thick DCBB with standard Black Linen. That sure was a nice feeling blade.
