Hiya,

I'm looking at buying a small gent's - type knife for in-pocket carry at the office. Has to be fairly innocuous looking, so I'm thinking of a Kopa or Kiwi. If anyone out there that has these two could post a close-up pic showing the two next to each other, I'd appreciate it.

Any other small Spydies I should be considering?

Thanks!
Fox

Both are very refined looking, but the Kiwi's relatively narrow blade makes it even less intimidating than the Kopa.

If you are right handed, and like to carry your knife clipped to your pocket, then you may prefer the Kopa. Since its clip cannot be removed without leaving a large crater in the bolster, it is the less desirable choice if you're left handed or prefer loose pocket carry.

Thanks to both of you!

I had thought that the Kiwi was the more "civilized" of the two, but the Kopa looks to be a more comfortable size.

I prefer clipped carry, but whatever I get for this role will be strictly in-pocket. My manager says she doesn't care if I carry a small pocket knife, but I don't want to advertise it around.

Thanks again!

I've looked at these, and I'm leaning towards the Kopa. The Kiwi looks nice, but I think I would only carry it when other knives were unavailable, whereas the Kopa is nice enough for gent use, but beefy enough for EDC.

My question then becomes one of handle material. I like the look of the black micarta, but the cocobolo is more "friendly"... and I've never owned a knife with natural handle materials. How does the cocobolo stand up to long-term use?

The Kiwi's grip is one of the most comfortable I have felt and extremely secure. It is another one of those knives you have to hold to understand.

In addition to being fairly popular for knife handles, it has been used for handgun grips for quite some time and stands up about as well as any of the other woods used for that. Like most wood handles, if you carry the knife regularly it will darken with age. Some folks consider that a plus, saying it adds character, some view it as a negative. On the plus side, wood has a natural warmth that no other material offers and as you already observed, is viewed as more "friendly" than most others as well.

Don't sell the Kiwi short for either comfort or utility. Even among Spydercos, which tend to be very ergonomic, it is one of the best in that regard.

i would consider stainless plain edge dragonfly if i were you , or stainless native

I feel I ought to big-up the Kopa, it's much more of a "real" knife than the Kiwi whilst still being small and sheeple friendly- I have both and the Kopa has been my EDC for 7-8 months now - nothing else gets a look in.
