anyone have or can take a picture of a hairy carry next to a rat tail?

I have a rat tail+cultellus pic, and a cultellus+hairy carry pic, but none that include both the hairy carry and the rat tail....

any help is much appreciated :D

now if I could just get them all together...

Oooo. I like that bottom pic...

nevermind, I went ahead and got both :)

if the HC had been designed to keep the edge as close to the index finger as the rat tail (or even better, closer by virtue of no choil) I'd say that it is one of the best designed knives I've ever handled. but sadly, I do not like it because of the choil.

the rat tail is pretty darn awesome.

the beginning of the knot

finished, but loose

tightening process

(I can never get the top of the knot right :( I should have done a single straight across loop.)

finished and very tight, completely secure from any shifting in any direction. the turks head knot is excellent in that the weave pattern doesnt allow for gaps to form, or for the weave to shift at all. however, since I didn't put anything underneath it it does leave the tang fairly thin in the hand. I contemplated doing a second turks head over it, but that would make the gaurd less pronounced and less effective. it also takes about 5 hours to do one of these stupid things, and its not really worth it to do a second one :)

if I was gonna custom design one of these out of infi, this is what I'd do:

the hairy carry handle was from memory when I drew it, but basically I love that handle and would love to see it on the smaller rat tail sized blade.

something like this :D
one thin (1/16-3/32") with a gutted tang and one thick (1/4-5/16"). and they would still be light when compared to one of the fullsized fixed blades.

I would buy that, LVC. Small and slicey.

it seems like it would be the best of both worlds, without some of the potential negatives (mainly choil, and a little bit of the 154cm brittleness). I'd also be happy with thin and thick versions of the plain old rat tail too :D

I have to agree with you on the choil. What is a choil doing on a knife thats made to slice? Its in the way for a lot of outdoor tasks. Moving the edge away from the hand on a knife like this really affects its function.

I like the HC blade better, I like that its wider. But, the choil is out of place on the knife. I'd love to get one with no choil at all and a nice straight plunge cut rather than that rounded thing.

if they did that and made it out of sr101, to me it would be a perfect knife, at 3/16" it would be an excellent jack of all trades from slicing to light prying and batoning. and OH that handle is AWESOME!

I did the photoshop of the rat tail mostly because I've been looking for pocketable knives, and the hairy carry is just a bit to heavy for that.

The Rattail is a good one for your pocket and I've been carrying my Cultellus in my pocket a bit lately and it fits too. This fancy CS Cultie deserves leather though so I'm on the hunt for a suitable sheath. My Rattail has been carried as a neck knife since I got it.

Yea! Have you looked at the cultelluses. They'd work for pocket carry!

Chuddy Bear makes a very nice sheath for the Cultellus- that's what mine rides in most of the time.

Man, that Rat Tail is nice. I kinda want one of those!:D

It's really an absolutely stunning knife. I wish busse had made made a series of "budget" knives along these lines, with holes pre drilled, but lacking handle material to reduce the cost. it's about as simple, small and usefull as I can imagine a blade being. I am very happy to have it :D:thumbup:
