Could anyone post a pic of the Ritter mini grip and BM 707 side by side. I am trying to decide which to get. The BM 705 is one of my favorites, but I really like the blade shape of both of the above mentioned knives. Thanks in advance, Josh

I dont have a pic, but what happens when you have been a memeber for 2 years, Will you still be the newknifeguy

Initially it was "newknifeguy" 'cause I was new to knives. Now it is "newknifeguy", 'cause I keep buying "new" knives :p

Good reply. ;)

Well, don't have that pic and don't have a 707 but here's a pic of reg and mini grips ;)

Newknifeguy.... ;)

Two great knives but I prefer the Ritter. It is easier to open as you can get a bit more thumb behind the thumbstud.
The arrow pocket clip of the 707 is nicer, so I might swap them over (assuming that they are interchangable)

558 is the mini RSK ;)
Good eye Timmy, thanks for the correction ;)
Steven, those are great comparison pics. I see what you mean about the stud. 707 just does not quite excite me enough to put down a yard ($100) for it. I don't think I'd prefer it to my mini-grips either.

I was considering the 707 and the mini Ritter for a sub-3" folder, I went with the mini Ritter and I am very happy with it.

Steven,
Thanks for the pic. Unfortunatly, it makes it harder rather than easier ;) .
I love my 705, and never use the thumb stud to open it. Maybe I'll buy both :D
Damn!

If you already have a 705, definitely go with the Ritter.

wow, i never realized how close they were. These are the advantages and disadvantages of both as I see it.
First, the differences that dont really matter: Blade length (a tenth of an inch wont do much); Blade width: the same; and weight: .3 oz is not noticable.

Ok, advantages of the 707:
-Aluminum handles with inserts (I have not felt it but benchmade Al is pretty grippy and i suspect that this is more grippy than the zytel)
-Swedged blade for better penetration and lightening
-Thinner pocket ride.

Now for the mini rsk:
-s30v
-thumb ramp (i see this as vital to the ergos of a small knife and this would likely make my decision)
-swolen handles for grip
-a "taller" blade which means the grind is less steep on the RSK, though the swedge may negate this...i would need calipers to know for sure.
-Lanyard/fob hole (i could care less, but many ppl find a fob helps signifigantly in using a small knife.

Actually, the mini RSK (and the regular mini Griptilians) have a full liner, not a half liner. A small lip of the handle slabs covers the liner, so it is mostly not visible.

The full sized Grips have the half liner.

ahh, thanks for the correction Don. I have only handled minis in passing. I just assumed it was the same as my friends full sized grip because it looked the same.

I have a Mini Ritter and was looking in a longing way at the 707. Now, after this thread I am not much closer to making a decision. This would be my first knife with inserts. In the past I have not been fond of all metal handles, but the re designed blade is a winner???.

Great pics!

You mentioned your fondness of the 705 and your consideration of the 707, so:

Thought you might be interested in this possibility (see link below) since you already have a 705. I used a 705-401 with silver g10 scales, but it would be the same process with a black g10 705 which would also be real nice imho.
You'd end up with the 705 blade in your 707 alum. handles and your 707 blade wrapped in g10. I wish I could provide you a for sure link to the devo hat type spacers, but I suspect one of the knifemaking supply places could help you there. Maybe someone like www.knifekits.com
Anyway, if you weren't already confused by the options available, now you should be ;)
Oh, and here's the link to more options:

No charge for confusion :p
