Pic request: Shadow III/Mountaineer I

Hey everybody

Im about to buy my first one piece CRK, either a Shadow III or a Mountaineer I. The thing is that this particular knife will have to be ordered over the net which means i wont have a chance to handle it first.

Been looking at the measurements and im estimating that its just about the same size as my Fallkniven F1...The CRK has a slightly longer blade/shorter handle.

But if anybody could post a pic or two of the 4 inch Shadow/Mountaineer next to an Spyderco Tenacious, Endura/Delica or Fallkniven F1 and a pic in-hand i would be eternally grateful :D

Hope you guys can help

EDIT: Found a pic in-hand in the CRK fixed-blade thread, but if somebody can post any comparison pics id be real happy.

Good choice. I have a Mountaineer 1. You will love single guard and 4" blade. :thumbup:
 
Im real curious as to how itll feel in the hand, ive read that some think its abit too small, but as its almost the size of the F1 i think itll fit me fine.

But no matter what im keeping it as theyre not being produced anymore.

This is my first hollow grind outdoor blade, wasnt too sure about it at first cos i like to be able to baton my blades, nothing crazy like hammering through a log of frozen cordwood, just medium/light firewood prep. But i got other knives for that, so ill carry my Shadow paired up with a small axe...think itll be a great combo!
 
I don't baton with my knives, but I don't think you will have any trouble. The A2 blade is hardened at 55-57 for reduced brittleness and increased toughness.

The Mtn. 1 was my first and only CRK hollow handle for about 15 months. Then, last month, I ordered a Mountaineer 2 because of the discontinuance of the line. I like it just as much. It has a very comfortable handle! :thumbup:

Yeah, i wanted to order one of the bigger Mountaineers too but im strapped for cash right now. I hope ill be able to find a online shop who still has one in the next couple of months.

Man, all this talk of Shadows and Mountaineers got me all excited :D ...too bad mine wont be here for another month :grumpy:.
 
I don't think you will have any trouble finding the 5.5" blade models within the next several months. They seem to be readily available - at least, right now.

Since your Shadow 3 has a single guard, I assume you ordered it directing from CRK? If yes, I'm curious when you placed your order. I thought that December 1st was the cut off.
 
Yeah i ordered it directly from CRK. I found out that CRK was discontinuing the line on December 3rd, then i wrote CRK a couple of days later and got in touch with Heather and she was willing to make an exception and accept my order.

Enjoy your knife. It will be worth the wait. Until then, this will have to do. :D :thumbup:
