Pic request: SYKCO 511 factory edge?

So, this is my first time posting in this forum, and this may be a weird request...but can anyone send me a picture of the factory edge on their 511? I got one a couple years ago (my first and only Busse-kin blade besides a Scrapivore I bought in the same order) and it came with a ridiculously thick, dull edge on it that wouldn't cut a thing. I'm guessing the angle was in the range of 60 degrees inclusive. I haven't used it at all because of that. However, I recently decided to try taking it to Yosemite when I go in May, so I've been working on it with sandpaper trying to grind down the shoulder and take enough material off that I can actually sharpen the thing. Hopefully convex it decently in the end. So far it's gotten a little better, but still nowhere near as great as I'd hoped.

What I'd like to see is whether they all come like that (and therefore there's some reason for it that I don't know about?), or whether I just happened to get one with a not-so-great factory sharpening job and I just need to do the best I can to fix it up. Either way, I'm taking it with me to Yosemite: all that's left to be determined is how much use I'll be able to give it once I'm there.

Anyone got any pictures they'd be willing to share?

Oh, and since some of you guys have probably sharpened these things many times before, I'm also all ears if you have any suggestions for better methods than sandpaper. That's all I've got right now.

Garth, thank you for actually trying to help in some way. Bravado, I assume you're trying to say I should have tried to contact Scrapyard to fix it for me instead of posting anything here? Hopefully my explanation below will answer that.

I don't know much about these companies or their warranties (other than that both are supposed to be really good), but I wasn't looking for someone else to fix my problem for me. I just want to know if this particular knife usually comes like that, and/or if I should have left the edge alone for some reason. And if not, is there a better way to fix it? I'm confident I can fix it myself given the time. The point of my thread was not to complain about the knife or the company, but to get some information about why it might have come that way and how I might be able to freshen it up. I assumed, from the other threads I've read on here, that this forum would be full of people who knew all about this kind of stuff and might even enjoy helping me. If that was a mistake, I'm sure I can find a different forum somewhere else to ask my questions.

Edit: Bravado, I guess it's possible you were saying, "Welcome to the forum. To answer your question, based on my experience, I think the fastest and best way to sharpen that 511 would be to contact Scrapyard and see if they'd be willing to do it for you." If that's the case, thank you. I'm very much accustomed to doing things for myself, but I'd be willing to consider it.

You might have better luck getting an instant picture on their forum that they have on their website.

I agree with Garth - contact Scrap Yard and let them take care of it. A knife that comes from the factory with a bad edge is their problem to fix, not the customer's.

Mine arrived sharper than you describe but also needed some work. I did the one below on a Worksharp KO at 20degs per side. It is very very slicey now ... ;) It really IS worth the effort to sharpen one up mate..!!!

If you talk to Dan Busse (Scrap Yard) he will also get you taken care of I am sure !!!

Thanks, Andy! That looks like a sweet knife. Even though I've never used my 511, I've always loved the feel of it and though it would make a fantastic knife someday if I could just get it sharp. Thanks for the picture.

Since several people suggested it, I decided to go ahead and send a quick email to Scrapyard. Even if they can't do anything to fix it, they may have some better suggestions on how to sharpen it, since obviously they know this stuff better than me.

My 511 came reasonably sharp (nothing like Andy's looks now though ). It has been used around the house, and is still fairly sharp (although it could use a touch-up). The 511 quickly became one of my favorite knives; I'm sure you will enjoy yours too!

Recently got Accusharp sharpener I hope this will also work for you as well.
