I'm really bad at making decisions and don't know very much about knives but I know what I need it to do. If anyone can leave recommendations that would be amazing.

I like to forage and trap, I need a knife that can get through roots and small branches but that could also scrape a hide and butcher small carcasses (rabbit, etc turkey at largest). It would be helpful if it had an attached fire starter but I don't want the blade to be serrated in any way and it must be fixed blade. I also dive, so stainless and floatable are plusses.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

The only floating knife I know of is the Mora Cork handled job, but it's serrated.
I've seen people put a float onto their lanyard which will keep the knife afloat, and easily removed when you're not on or in the water. This might significantly broaden your options.

In that case I can gladly forget about the floating, it's handy but I had no idea there were so few.

If you don't mind a small and handy swiss army knife, nothing too expensive and stainless. I'd recommend checking out the few following models from their 91mm product line: Huntsman, Camper or Hiker. These all have small and large blades, can and bottle openers, and also woodsaw.

In terms of fixed blade, Mora does offer smooth floating cork handle fixed blade. Meanwhile, you could always attach a ferro rod to that sheath with a bicycle inner tubing for fire starting.

I did not know about the Mora Cork. A quick search suggests that there is a lime-color version that is stainless and not serrated...
