Hey guys, gotta big question for all, I'll lay down some background though.
- I currently have a BK2
-I should have a BK14 on the way soon
- I don't need any choppers as I am a hatchet/axe guy
-I do not have any blades which their geometry excels at slicing
- only 1 blade over 7 inches

So, I'm trying to decide between a BK5, and a BK7, love the look of both, both priced about the same, now it just comes down to the way they were designed to be used and what I'm looking for. Can you guys help me decide?!

They are both sick blades, and believe me I know this is a good problem to have!

Get both. Problem solved, you're welcome. :D

I doubt either one will be disappearing anytime soon so get one now and one later. Then get the rest.

BK5, it excels at slicing. Of all the fancy blades/expensive blades I own I go back to the BK5 on a regular basis. It's a great knife.

If you dont need any choppers id personally look at the tweeners. the 15 would make an excellent slicer and is like a smaller 5 the 17 would be like a smaller 7, but both your options are larger blades and out of those 2 id pick the 7 personally just because i like the look better. but for slicing the 5 might be better. depending on what your wanting to slice, i think a smaller blade would be beneificial. the 2 is quite thick so its not a dedicated slicer, the 14 will cover your small needs. so if your wanting a big knife id choose the 7 but if your wanting a dedicated slicer that you will actually be able to use more than out camping or in the field id really suggest a tweener.

Oh how I wish I could do that but I imagine that after I get one, the other wont come for some time, though I plan on doing that in the long run, it would be a killer to wait!

BK5. This discussion is over! lol

Thanks for the quick replies!
Machine- it's great to hear what an awesome knife the 5 is as that is what I was leaning towards in the first place, dang tough decision.

World- I've browsed the tweeners several time and all I can think of is there's nothing that my Kabar hunter won't do that they can! (Aside from batoning which I have no need for)
Oh and I forgot to mention I have a Mora classic 2 and a kershaw antelope hunter which are already gonna be placed in the same order as the 7 or 5, those blade shapes and sizes really cover what I would need the tweeners to do I imagine. Any thoughts on that?

I too do not own a bk5 but have heard they are master slicers. But don't take the bk7 off your 'to buy' list:D

BK5 all the way!!!! Name me something you think it can't to and I'll prove you wrong!!!!

As I read the OP, the first thought that popped into my head was a BK15 -- good slicer, smaller blade than the 2 but bigger than the 14. I think both the BK5 and the BK7 have a lot of overlap with the BK2. Given the choice between a 5 and a 7, I vote 5; it seems to me the 7 is REALLY close to the 2.

Its really a personal choice but with the knives you already have, you would probably prefer the bk5. Im just not into that style of blade.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, and like you do I think the 5 offers more versatility considering the blades I already have. Thanks for the input sir!

Ok, it cant look as good as a bk7.

to me its a just big skinner. i understand the shape would excell in slicing, slashing or skinning due to the larger belly, or cutting area. but if im skinning something or slicing food id want a smaller blade personally. if i were to ever get a trailing point knife it would be the bk15.

Exactly!

Plus, it's the only knife that has been approved by Oregon Fal'er for his "man breakfast".
That 5 actually looks small in his big bear paws. lol
