I am a new collector and and now have four knives, I thought it would be fun to get you folk's opinion on which should be my EDC. I have not yet decided which I like the best. (

All are straight edge, no blade coatings)

1. Benchmade 581 Barrage (M390)
2. Benchmade 746 min-Onslaught (154CM)
3. Buck 337-BKS Paradigm Pro (S-30V)
4. Cutco 1841 2-3/4" Lockback Knife (440A)

question # 2

What sould be my next knife to add to the collection (under $200.00)? I am considering the following let me know if like of of these or have another in mind.

1. Benchmade 950 Rift (154 CM)
2. BONE COLLECTOR 15020-2 (D2)
3. SOG Vulcan Tanto (GV10)
4. Sypderco Paramilitary II (S30V)

Hello ericvar101.
Question #1
You could do what many do and rotate your EDC and pick the one that you like most that day or the one that will be the best tool for what you may encounter that day.

Question #2
Buy the paramilitary 2. My guess is once you do that, you will want to EDC that and the rest will sit in a drawer (for a couple weeks at least until the newness wears off.). It is a great knife, great slicer, great deployment, great build quality, its light for its size, etc etc.

Good luck!

Mike.

Couldn't say it better. Enjoy!

I have to add my vote for the paramilitary 2. I am a huge Benchmade fan but the spyderco would help take your collection in a new direction and it's a great knife.

1) I'd say go for that mini onslaught... I love Lum designs

2) DON'T buy the SOG vulcan... it is a disappointment

I'm going to be the black sheep and say the Bone Collector 15020-2. Excellent knife with a great lock and a solid feel!

As far as what to carry, I agree with rotating, as many of us do.

Thanks for the input guys, I value your opinions and I think will continue to rotate. I think I have been swayed to make the Sypderco the next knife on my list. My wife lets me get one about every other month so I hope to own it in May. The Bone collector will be in line behind it.

Res1cue, I will take your advise and scatch the SOG Volcan from my list.

If your knife cant shave hair, its not sharp enough !

I have a Para2 as my EDC. However, I have an Emerson CQC-7V coming in the mail, and I'm excited about it. I suspect that it will be in my rotation with my Spydies and Benchmades.

Good idea. If you want details here are my gripes about the vulcan

-SOG doesn't know how to HT VG10... this was my 3rd SOG VG10 blade and it wouldn't hold an edge like it ought to and was surprisingly grainy.. you woulda thought it was D2
-ground really thick, I have plenty of other saber-ground knives, but this was really thick near the edge
-arc lock had play, not very reassuring. SOG says it can hold 1000 lb of force, but that seems a bit much, considering most Triad locks only hold 300 lb (give or take)
-flipper doesn't let you engage the knife all the way
-weird liner protrusion near the butt hurts hand and doesn't sufficiently cover the blade.. I haven't cut myself but I heard of others who have
-zytel feels cheaper than most and digs into hand
-it seems they really tried to make the thumbstud unique but it digs into skin
-weird shark-gill cutouts that just don't look right
-overpriced for the materials

its really a shame, because it had a neat gladius-like shape to it, with thick steel stock and (supposedly) good materials. If they raised the grind a bit, fiddled with the lock, and swapped out the zytel for G10, they really could have had a winner. It's my favorite knife to hate on just because it had so much potential and was botched so terribly

edit: here are the problem areas I mentioned
