I have an itch to get a new "user". Actually, I'm thinking I need a couple.

First of all, a new skinning, gutting, overall hunting knife would be nice. I don't own a single Buck fixed blade but do have a 112 and a Cross Lock. I'm eyeing the Alpha Hunter with Rosewood Grips. Not opposed to a fixed blade, but have always seemed to prefer folding/locking. Suggestions?

Secondly, I'd like a mid-sized user. Is the Vantage Avid the knife to get? Any other suggestions?

I'm staggered around in here for a short while and am just looking for a little nudge, if you will.

In addition, I have a couple of "collectors" knives including a 501 with script tang stamp-new in the box as well as the White Knight script tang-new in the box. Just think it's time to get some more that I can get bloody/dirty.

Thanks in advance.

The best fixed blade I own is the Alaskan Guide Vanguard from Cabelas.I'm not a big fan of gut hooks. The Vantage Avid is my main edc, when I'm not carrying a 110.You can't go wrong with either of those.

I prefer the AG Vanguard over the Alpha as well.
The Vantage Avid is a superb knife.
Add a Cabela's AG 110 Folding Hunter and that would be the three Bucks I'd own if I could only have three. Of course I have a few more than three.

The Paradigm is also a interesting upgrade to the Vantage. Also don't forget the classic 100 series.
btw, I do own the three I listed above...simple outstanding knives.

The 3 knives that Flatlander has is all you will need...

But always Buy what you like... You have to use them, for ever.... ITE ...

I agree with all that is said-I think even ordinary 110 will suit either purpose. Vantage Pro or Avid-great EDC's.

I like the looks of that AG Vanguard! I also ran across the Dymondwood 110 and just may have to gobble that up.

Looks like the Vantage Pro should be brought home as well.

I'll keep looking and report back. Thanks!
