Well, got in the GI Plumb pick mattock I ordered last week.

It's a pretty cool little tool.

Not surprisingly, it functions well as a, well, pick mattock. Picking the ground, cutting roots, etc.

Kind of surprising to me (although it shouldn't be), it it does indeed throw well, as brother Vec said. It's very stable in flight and tracks straight. It was very easy for me to throw (and I'm not an accurate thrower by any means). I was even a bit surprised at how well it sticks in, since the pick is not a sharp point.

As you can see, I threw a bit high, but it did the trick. Only the fourth throw!

Another thing brother Vec was right about: Cats really do not like them! Even though I haven't quite got the knack down of figuring the right lead to take yet. . .

Mine says US PLUMB 1944

Dimensions are about the same, except it's 14.25" long, point is about the same as yours.

I got mine off of eBay.

Has the cool little frog that holds the head and haft separately, and uses the old wire hanger for a pistol belt. Pretty cool little thing. I didn't even know they existed, and was looking for something like it for quite a while, until someone posted about it here.

Thank's for the Info., Now I'll be searching for a Plumb to add to my Collection, And your's Is a year Older than mine, I wonder how many Company's made these ? I'm gonna have to do some research on these Treching Tool's,

Probably quite a few, especially in the early 1900s, what with digging in being a major activity back then.

You're probably the first guy I've heard of with a pick collection. How many do you have?

They look like they would come very handy. Another great tool a guy has to have....
Both from the 40's and look they will last forever...

Sounds like a nice collection. I have a few old folding shovels, will have to check them out. And pick up a "pick".....Its always nice to have a certain tool when you need it....

Gotcha, that's actually some cool stuff to collect.

Yeah, I was wanting something like it, because the land I'm on has been overgrown with trees and palmettos for a long time, and the roots are deep and all over the place (some 50 feet away from any plant!), and a nice hand pick like this (actually the mattock end) is a lot nicer to have than swinging a full size one to till for my gardens.

Now you guys have me wanting one really badly. What a bunch of Pick Teases!:D

By the way, did you ever see that Laurence Fishburn movie (was it "Hoodlum"?) in which the two pick/axe assassins are sent to kill him? Nasty weapons if sharpened.

Think I am going to have to find one now, looks like a great tool. Thanks for the review/ pictures Cpl.

Hoodlum was a pretty decent film if you can tolerate gangster violence in a movie. Later in the movie Fishburne's ("Bumpy" Johnson) rival hires these two big twin assassins who are supposed to be "the best pick/axe men in the business". Their distinguishing characteristic is that they constantly discuss "Best steak house in New York" or "Best Pastrami sandwich", etc., etc. They do a little pick/axe work on Bumpy's bedroom.
