Due to the overwhelming response to my yesterdays post regarding if the
Commander is a good edc knife or not :DI decided to buy one. I wanted a souvenir from the 2010 Olympics so I braved the traffic into Warriors & Wonders and picked up a Satin combo on special. It's old stock so they were blowin' 'em out to make room for the Stonewash blades.
Nice knife looking forward to putting it to use. BTW, it has 2006 on the blade.

$149 was the cost. I was wondering if anything much has changed for 2010 on the new stone washed
versions? Liner locks all still the same size etc,?

Oh, that is my favorite knife, and you can even read that on my public profile here too :D

I'm planning on getting an Auto Commander tomorrow at the local Gun Show where RRG is gonna be setup (I always go if he's there, otherwise it's a waste of a trip :o). I can't wait to get it.

The original commander that I have is a 2003 model I believe, but it's been quite some time since I sanded off the coating so I would have to do an extensive search of my own posts to find out for certain. Mine is a plain edge satin finish and I cut off the wave (biggest regret ever!!! :grumpy:). I've used mine for batoning, chopping, prying, you name it this knife has done it....except stabbing something, I don't like to jab a folder into anything no matter what the lock is.

That Commander will give you years of use, the one I have is the only knife I've ever kept and EDC'd for so long (3 years plus). Of course it gets rotated out here and there, but it's one of only two knives that I've never even considered selling/trading.

Best of luck and let us know how yours holds up, J.

Thanks very much guys will let you know how I get on with it. I've been edc 'n
my two Emersons quite a bit lately.

J's Knives,
I've been tempted more than once to grind off the wave feature on my Emerson's.
What was your reason for the regret?

For grinding the wave off, my biggest regret was that a few days later I tried to wave it out of habit and nothing happened :( It feels better on my thumb without the wave, but it's a very nice feature to have and I wouldn't recommend it unless you had a second commander to continue waving.

As for the gun show.....I got my Auto Commander today!!! :D That will have to be a whole other thread after I get some use out of it. This is my favorite all time knife, great handle ergonomics and the blade is great for everything but poking stuff :p
