I picked up a 24, and I love it! So far, I'm liking the D2 a lot; it takes a toothy edge and stays sharp. Still shaving a week later, which is pretty nice. For the other 24 owners, what edge angle do you like for yours? I want to thin the edge out, but don't want to take it down so far it will chip, which I've read is a possibility with D2. So, how thin is too thin?
I had picked up a kydex sheath from Azwelke a week or so before I received the 24 and was happy to see it fit like a glove. A winning combo for sure.
Well, onto the pictures.

I'm digging your scales! Mind if I copy them?

I put a 20 degree convex on my 24 using the Worksharp, with a touch of 25 degree micro bevel on the edge with a fine diamond stone.
its tough for anything I have thrown at it. Its primarily in my fishing boat to cut up bait fish, line, rope, roots, and a push pole from an old willow tree.

Copy away, my friend. Thanks for the info regarding the angles. I sharpen freehand, so I am never really sure what angle I'm going at exactly, just a general idea. Have you noticed any chipping at all?

No chipping so far. I have not been too nice to her either.
I have a suspicion that Ka-bar has done something special with the heat treat on their D2. It sharpened hard, like S30V with out a lot of burr hassle. Has held an above average working edge for a while now. I think it has only been stropped once.

I don't know what angle I used but I would not worry about chipping. D2 is plenty tough and KaBar knows what they are doing with the heat treat.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll have to give my 24 a workout this weekend.
