I've been eyeing the 417 for a long time. I can't say it's the most practical EDC on the planet, but I have other knives for that. I just loved the sleek minimal aesthetic, and I had no spearpoints in my collection, so I finally jumped.

Fit and finish are perfect on this one. It's definitely an aggressive looking design. Probably not best for office carry lol. But I'm happy with it. Now I can eyeball the gorgeous Auto Fact.

So the Fact doesn't use the traditional omega springs. It uses a coiled spring. EDITED FOR CLARITY. It has a full extra loop in it. I had no idea that was the case. I can see where it would be difficult to fit an omega spring into the very slim dimensions of the handle but I hadn't seen anyone mention the coiled spring.

Really it has a coil spring? That's pretty cool, if you have a picture of it disassembled or a good picture of the spring I would really like to see that.

I didn't realize it uses a different spring either. Looks from here (
) like the regular Axis spring but with an extra loop, interesting.

Yeah that's a good description. It's like an omega spring with an extra loop and a much smaller radius. It still engages the liner and axis bar the same way.

I was inspecting mine closely with a flashlight and my heart sank for a second when I saw that extra loop until I realized it was by design. Pretty cool.

I would've definitely thought it was a broken spring when I saw it and freaked a bit if new.

If you have any other Benchmades, does pulling back on the bar feel any different?

It just might have a slight added resistance compared to my other five Axis lock knives. But this knife is brand new and the others are broken in. It does seem stiffer though.

I also have the fact,it's been carried some but not enough, as I have come to realize that I don't like or even love mine.I have been meaning to list mine on the exchange.

I have to admit the new spring design is nice.

I was going to suggest a design change of the handle to something like the infidel, a 1/3 wider handle and a slightly wider blade. In my opinion it would be a great replacement for the discontinued 531.

I like mine. Perfect out of the box...take that Benchmade haters😝 Got it at a gun show for a little less than an internet price. Kind of looks a little shorter than it is due to the thin blade, mine goes to the office

Mine came perfect as well. The only issue I have is the pocket clip has less tension than I'm accustomed to with Benchmades. Most of my Benchmades have strong clip tension. The Fact does have a milled flat for the clip. And it is not the typical deep carry clip. I'm still really digging it though. The slim dimensions really disappear in your pocket.

Closed height is just over 7/8ths of an inch at the widest point. It's noticeably lower than a 940. It takes up no pocket space.
