picked up a Blackhawk

The local Gart Sports had marked down the Blackhawk to $49.99. I thought this was a decent deal and I don't see them for sale on-line very often. I understand that this is a discontinued item, but it is certainly a nice knife. Mine is very tight now, but I've put a couple drops of Tuf-Glide on it and I have been working it open and shut. It seems to be loosening up a bit. It's sure a solid EDC knife. The handle contour is just about identical to the Native, but obviously the blade it very different. I do have two complaints: The first is the pocket clip. It looks like it was put on as an afterthought, since it is off to the side a bit and far too low on the handle. This causes it to sit kind of high in the pocket. Second, it does not appear to be available in PE. Hey, I have to nit-pick about something. Anyone else have one of these? How do you like it?

Got one off eBay a couple weeks ago in PE. It was my first G10 Spydie, and I really am impressed by feel of the G10. Aside from that I was disappointed in the knife. Part of that is, admittedly, my own fault - I never looked really close at the pictures of this knife. I'm left handed and was really annoyed that Spyderco chose to design the handle of a a lockback to make it less ambidexerous. Yes, that problem can be solved with some sandpaper and a little elbow grease, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. I agree with you that the clip position is less than ideal. I realize some do like a lot of knife exposed, but I prefer deep carry myself. The action on mine leaves something to be desired too. Both my Calypsos (SS and FRN), which are almost identical in size, have the same type lock, and the same size hole, open much more easily - not as easily as a Native, but most of the knives that open as easily as a Native are illegal where I live.

I had a Blackhawk a few years back and asked basically the same questions. The clip was sort of an afterthought, it wasn't designed specifically with the clip in mind. So it was just kind of put there like you said. As far as the handle, for right handed folk, it grips a little nicer with the uneven scales at the finger groove. Sal said it confused a lot of people into thinking it was a linerlock, so that entire idea was retired. I sort of liked it, just not enough to keep long term.

Mine was plain edge IIRC, but it's been about 4 or 5 years, so I could be mistaken. The Renegade is also a very nice piece with a very fine tip on it.

I'd agree with you on the PE part. That was regrettably my only reason to lose my Renegade, which I still kinda miss.
I found the clip on the Renegade OK, it's like the blackhawk, kinda high, but when you're wearing certain kind of clothing, the extra bit sticking out can make your draw much easier.
