ETA: The only thing I don't like is that it has to be carried tip up unlike my 806 AFCK. I prefer tip down after meeting the pointy end on my AFCK in my pocket a few years back.

That is a nice one Viking, congrats.
I've wanted to buy an 806 for a while, but I just cannot justify the $250 price tags I see on users.

Thanks fellas...I lucked into this one. I couldn't believe that only one other person besides me bid on it. What do you all think of the 440C Benchmades?

I know what you mean...The very used "pre-production" 806D2 I was bidding on - on ebay today, until it left my price range, just went for $179.49, and it had some serious wear and was like this early TSEK and only left/right clip adjustable and not tip down as were the later AFCKD2s.

440C is good steel. I have a couple of Boker and Leathermans that have 440C blades. They get sharp quick and stay that for decent amount of time.

I have a 805S as well. It's one of favorites, it was NIB too but I've been using it. I liked it so much I sprung for a 806-901, but 805 is much better IMHO. I like thumb studs better in general but I feel they work particularly well when paired with the axis lock. The blade is also better. The 806 has a very thin dagger like tip, but the tip on the 805 is thick and sturdy due to it's unique grind.

I'm surprised it isn't drilled for tip down. Most 805s and 806s I've seen have a tip down option.

I never thought of the blade thickness being the reason for the weight diffference between the two models (meaning this one and my 806D2 AFCK - I figured it was the type steel used), but it makes sense.

That's good to know, as I have a NIB made in Tiawan PIKA coming this week as well in 440C.

If you look at the picture of the blade it says "Prototype OCT 2001"...possibly it was before the later refinements.

Wow - I stumbled across this thread on a google and had forgotten about it...FYI - since this one, I picked up an 805 prototype marked "June 2002" IIRC and it was drilled for carry all 4 ways (i.e.: tip up or down, left or right)
