So I took my kid to a collectible store today so he could grab some Dr. Who comics, and while he was doing his thing I was looking in an old cabinet and came across this little knife, and for $10 I figured I would grab it it. It has Robert Klaas on the base of the main blade with Germany written underneath. On the other side is Solingen with an image of a couple of Cranes. Based on a quick bit of research, this company has been around for a long time, but I was not able to find any comparable to the exact knife I bought. Both blades have plenty of snap and open and close smoothly. There is some patina but overall the knife looks great! I don't think the blades have ever been sharpened but I could be wrong...

Does anyone have any info on this knife?

It is called a dogleg jack.
Made by Kissing Crane in Germany in the 60's/early 70's, it looks like. And for $10.00 you did excellent.

Thanks Vanguard! That is exactly what I was looking for. Obviously I am a complete newbie in this area so I appreciate the direction...

And that is about as far as the price information should go.

For the record, I was not asking for a value and sorry if it came across that way. I am not someone looking to sell anything... Ask my wife... Makes her nuts actually! lol

I just wanted to learn a bit about my knife. It's only the fourth one I have ever bought. I have carried the same 2 pocket knives for years and only recently became interested in the different types etc. I know I like the traditional styles and that's about as far as I have gotten.

11 posts in and I have already created my first faux pas... That's gotta be a record or something!

Nice find! Robert Klaas is still making knives as a traditional Solingen manufacturer. This looks like a post WWII knife. Some already told you - that´s more a dogleg Jack than a Toothpick (but that´s just a name ... no problem)

Sweet find, anyhow :)

You should give the knive a little oil treatment and some cleaning and sharping... that´s what I would do with pleasure :D

Here is a clip about another knife made by Robert Klaas that has some more information about the maker.

I'm going to call it a serpentine jack. This would be a great one to move to the Traditional forum and let them hash it out.

Awesome!!! Thanks everyone... I am really starting to get the bug for collecting knives. Learning all the stories is what I like... That video was great J D. Thanks for that!
