$6 @ an outdoor show. Kinda cool. I can’t tell if carbon or SS. It had a spot of rust that I was able to polish out, so maybe carbon. I sharpened it on my Lansky Turnbox rig, then some light strop work. Hair shaving sharp now. I might buy the No 10 SS to keep on the boat.

Does it say Carbone or Inox ?

Neither. Looks like “1st CHOIX OPINEL La Main Couronnee” on the handle and OPINEL FRANCE on the blade.

Looks like a varnished handle is carbon. SS are natural finish. I have carbon.

Sweet little knives with a cool history. :)

I have a No. 7 Carbon myself and nothing quite fits my hand the way it does. I also appreciate how easy it is to get a razor sharp edge on them when you're just learning how to sharpen.

If you like the Opinel, you might like an Okapi, Antonini or a MAM. I have an Okapi Biltong that is pretty nice, it has an unusual design in that it works similar to both a slipjoint and a friction folder.

If you're interested, just do an internet search on the above, and check them out. Bladeforums sponsor Baryonyx Knives sells all of the above brands, too.

UPDATE: Edited to correct spelling of Baryonyx.

Yes I agree. I plan on using this knife to practice my sharpening skills. So far you are absolutely correct. Even a man of my limited skills can get that thing razor sharp!

Thanks for the tip bro.

I scatter No. 8's around the various common places in my life like little Easter eggs. While it's rare, I occasionally forget to put a knife in my pocket. When I do, I like to have a No. 8 within easy reach. I must have half a dozen by now.

I do the same thing! Opinel No. 8, 9 or 10, Moda HD companion, Leatherman Wingman and those cheap, brandless CREE flashlights. They're everywhere.

Love my Opinels

Prefere the Cabon blades, but both work great.
The #6 is always in my pockets at work.

One great thing about the Opinel is that not only does it work well and pretty darn light weight, but it's so inexpensive that you can modify it to your liking and if you mess up,it's only a few bucks out the door.

You could go the rest of your life with an Opinel in your pocket as your only knife and get by very well. They cut like the dickens and are more rugged than most people think. Not to mention they are insanely light weight for their size. Their saws are great too!

I keep one around the house as an Apple knife, and one in my garage as an "anything" knife. Both 8's.

My 7 is my favorite, though.

I went on the Opinel website and you can get engraving done. I’m gonna get some personalized for Christmas gifts.

What I like is that the handle is nearly as comfortable as a fixed blade, but without the thick blade that most FBs have.

Their blade geometry is superb, they cut well and are thin and easy to sharpen.Theyre best for food cutting ,only con is that they get stiff when wet, otherwise theyre excellent knives.
