I wasn't able to go adventuring this weekend because my ride fell through, but I did take my BK7 out into the backyard for a few hours each day to test it out.
I have to say, I am in love with this knife.
I used it to chop down small deadwood and made a simple A-frame shelter. I also put it through its paces by battoning wood and making fuzz sticks. I was able to start a fire using a ferro rod and the tinder/kindling/wood I prepared with my BK7.
I love the ergonomics of this blade and I love its performance. It embodies the perfect balance of design/aesthetics vs. functionality.
On Friday I went to a local bike shop and picked up some busted inner-tubes. I used the innertubes to make ranger bands and used them on the handle. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep them on there. Honestly, I find nothing wrong with the stock scales, but wanted to add a little more grip to them when first using the knife.
I am also working on a small survival kit for a tin that I have that fits perfectly into the pouch.
After cleaning the blade up, I made the mistake of using my Smith's PP pocket sharpener on it, and it completely took the edge off the blade. I feel like an idiot doing that, but I am admittedly a newb when it comes to knives. Others have advised me to pick up an edgepro system or something like it, but I don't have the budget for that now.
