Was at a gunshow yesterday in Missouri and came across a hawk maker named Devin Price. He is a young man and I was impressed with his display and picked up one of his Voyager hawks. It was polished, sharp and well made. It seems he has taken over a previous makers company. Any comments about these hawks? They seemed kind of pricy but I had some rat holed Christmas money and splurged. Any comments on the edge holding etc on these hawks? Anyone carrying a hawk in their pack over a small axe for bushcraft?

Anyone carrying a hawk in their pack over a small axe for bushcraft?

I'd like to know more about this guy and his 'hawks, including which company he took over. Please, post pictures!

As for your question, m Dad always carried a Marble's 009 double bit Hunters Axe. I now have his old axe and one of my own. Since I started into the living history game, however, I have carried nothing but tomahawks of one form or another. (To be honest, it has been several years since I 'carried' anything due to a serious spinal cord injury. I'm getting better everyday and plan to hit the bush again soon.)

Right now I am awaiting delivery of a CS Trail Hawk that will be severely mod'ed. Plans are drawn & tools are ready.

Also, I have an old small head, (probably from an old roofing hatchet), that is well on its way to being transformed into a tiny hammer poll 'hawk. (Will post photos in a new thread.)

When they are both completed I'll test them both against the old fav, the 009.

Easier that pics. 2hawks@2hawks.net or www.2hawks.net. I didn't care much for the rawhide wrap. I thought it detracted from the hawk and didn't have value to me. If I was going to use it overseas the head could be pinned and a composite handle would be in order. But for a reinactor, this would work. It is one of his heavier hawks, but would work for gereral use. Curly maple handle would make it a looker. I got it with a leather sheath and extra handle and paid much less that the asking price.

I came across a very small single bit marbles with a rough handle. I was going to replace it but the eye is fairly weird, not a an oval opening. May have been used alot. Looks like a small fat wedge. Small pocket axe I guess.

Bob "Two Hawks" Thalmann was the original owner of Two Hawk's Custom Tomahawks. He passed away in the mid 2000's after a long illness. Before he died he took Devin Price, the current owner of the company, as an apprentice. The late Thalmann's wife sold the business to Price. His hawks are cast from 6150 vandium steel. He then tempers the 'hawk and hardens the the edge. which is a turn off for some folks. I've been wanting one of his Warhawks for a looong time.

His 'hawks have gotten mixed reviews in the past. main with the finish of the heads and hafts. Also with the edge profile.

i sometimes do, i love my gb sfa but i also love tossin a hawk in the woods so it usually is a hard choice

Anyone have any experience with him over the 'net? I've tried to email him (and a few others) about a 'hawk I'd like made, but no answer.

I didn't realize they were cast. That explains my questions about trip hammers etc. He is a young man. I think he will go far. I did see a comment on the net about Hollowdweller having some problems with a delivered hawk that was rusted. I believe the problem was squared away. He seemed like a straight up guy. I think he will go far. Hope mine holds up and goes up in value. He seemed to indicate some of them are going overseas to the sandbox. I wish him well.

I think he gets his castings from Alan foundry. The company Ragweed forge gets his. The difference being Prices 'hawks are cast in a more expensive and stronger steel. I would have no hesitation depending on one of prices 'hawks for bushcraft. Like i said one of his Warhawks is on my wish list.

I emailed him about 3 months ago got an immediate reply. He it would be a 7 day turn around time. but alas I found my funds having to go towards more important causes

Two Hawks, the man who started the company, was quite a legend in hawks. He was a member here and posted in the past. You might be able to find some of his vintage posts, which contain wisdom accumulated over many years. His throwers were used by champions at many big rendezvous for years. I have several of his hawks and have used one of his utility hammer poll models extensively.

Two hawks used high quality investment cast heads and mine have performed as well as my forged hawks. One reason Two Hawks used investment cast heads was for consistency. In his competition throwers, he considered it very important that they all be the same weight and dimensions for consistent throwing. He had a hard time achieving that with forged heads---owing to the inevitable small variations in how each head is hammered out.

Sadly, we lost Two Hawks a few years ago. I haven't seen the work put out by the person who took over for him. I hope it lives up to the Two Hawks name.

Checked out the link, those are some beautiful hawks. I would love to hear from someone who has some.

as DWK said Two Hawks posted in the hawk forum for a long time before his untimely passing. Had alot of wisdom when it came to hawks in general. I remember before he passed he was working on something new with removable carbide points. Of course Cliff Stamp came around and started a web war:o

Just finished reading all the posts from the beginning on the axe forum. Lots of information. I wish I had known Two Hawks. He had lots of information and seemed to share it easily. I hope to enjoy and use the hawk I purchased in his name.
The hawk I now have is a nice piece of work. I expect it to perform. I may even get a smaller version before the current maker gets too popular. Thanks for the info. Loosearrow

Bob was indeed a LEGEND in the hawk world I have 3 of his hawks and over the years before he passed away we became friends . I have the last warbeast he made before his passing I have many many hawks im my collection . BUT BOBS BY RAR ARE THE BEST I HAVE AND HAVE USEDS FOR THAT MATTER !!!!!!

I've had the Pathfinder Hawk for almost two years. I love it. it's in my top two of 11 Hawks.

Just be aware the blueing offers no rust protection. Mine rusted in damp air. Otherwise, nice.
