Picked up this very nice boot knife at Plaza cutlery in Costa Mesa, just wanted to show it of.:o
picture.php

Knife Style: Custom Utility Knife
Blade Length: 3 1/8" Handle to tip
Overall Length: 7 1/4"
Handle: Premium Bastonge Walnut :p
Blade: CPM 3v with black tungsten carbide coated finish
Tang: Full Sheath: Kydex sheath

Notes: This boot knife has the guard built in. The wood gives it a more presentation look but it is meant to be used! With the toughness of the CPM 3v blade it is a stronger tougher blade so the narrow tip will hold up better then other knives! The over all thickness of just the knife is 5/16". In the sheath it is 1/4" plus clip!

and hears some info on the maker.

James Scroggs

James is a newer knife maker specializing in CPM3v steel which is very tough strong steel. All his blades are heat treated by Paul Bos and the Rockwell hardness 60. Also each knife is "tungsten carbide coated" by Ion Bond to protect the blade and give it that cool black look! With the CPM3v the blade will take a lot of abuse but always use commonsense! It is on the level of m2 for edge holding but 3 times more tough without the rusting. Also each knife comes with a black kydex sheath! Also the Bastonge Walnut and stabilized Mandrone Burl came from Pachmayr and were extra wood off of premium wood stocks. The wood has been with James for the last 20-35 years.

If your ever in Costa Mesa you must go to Plaza Cutlery the guys there are really nice and the selections is amazing.

Hi Edwood7 -

Very nice score - thanks for the detailed information too.

That wood is really wonderfully rich - I'll bet it is even more spectacular in person.

Thanks for the pic and congrats on the score!

best regards -

Hey that's the exact store where I got my Surefire Centurion 3. Do you remember seeing any ESEE knives there? I've been meaning to find a place that stocks them.

I love Plaza Cutlery!
Biggest selection in blades in CA.

Although I don't recall them carrying ESEE.

Nice blade and nice to hear from a CA local!

"boot knife"
I'm unclear on California law about this style of knife or how to carry it legally here.
Any clarification would be appreciated.

Well I work south of the border, doing executive protection; I don’t carry it in California. It’s not noticeable in the picture, but the point is double edged, a weapon clear and simple, plus the sheath system is mad to be carried counseled, sow it doubt its legal in California.

cool! plaza is always a fun store to go to.

now you just have to come back in 10 months for the custom knife show. thats worth a see ;)

No ESEE knives on display, maybe I missed seeing one because I went straight to de custom display case.:o

We're blessed in Southern California to have two of the really great knife stores in the Country . . . Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa and Nordic Knives in Solvang. Congrats on your purchase. :D

Does this look like a blatant advertisement to anyone besides me?

Maybe. Or maybe it's just someone who's happy about his knife purchase and wants to share it with us. I mean, everyone who posts something about a knife they like could be accused of advertising, right?

Nice snag! Good folks at Plaza, I'd love to see their store.

I like it . Looks like a New York Special, which I believe is a Loveless design. I have a very similar knife made by Bob Dozier. Its a nice fixed blade for carry.

I live about 5 miles from Plaza Cutlery and I go there too often. I can confirm there are zero ESEE products there.

If anything, nice to know that there are so many knife nuts near where I live...
